We recently connected with Alex & Pam Montero and have shared our conversation below.

Alex & Pam , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

The main story behind our mission is that I, (Pam), was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder when I was only 17 years of age. My career as a hairdresser had barely begun and that diagnosis made me feel that it had already ended. I soon learned ways I could stay healthy and prolong my career, with the use of naturally derived products.
Finding products that protected my immune system gave me hope for my future as a hairstylist, and I have seen how it has given that same hope to my clients with delicate physical and mental health.
Alex and I’s goal as service providers has always been, and always will be to provide the highest quality products and experience for our ‘guests’.

Alex & Pam , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Alex and I, (Pam), are a husband and wife team with similar backgrounds. We both started with a love and passion for art, that later developed into a love and passion for barbering/cosmetology.

Although knowing each other casually for several years, and starting our careers individually, we developed feelings after unknowingly attending the same Hair Show in Orlando, FL.
Months later we began dating and married March of 2020.

Having the same career, passions and experience brought us to the conclusion that we both wanted to start a business together.
In October of 2020 we began designing our business and officially opened Montero Styles Hair Studio January of 2021.

We offer a variety of services, Barbering and Hair Styling alike.
Our goal was to create a unisex environment where both barbering and salon guests would feel comfortable.

We consider our studio an extension of our own home, hence why we call our clients “guests”.

Our products are also something that sets us apart.
The salon and color products are all environmentally conscious products.
We carry a Bio Dynamic line from Italy, Oway, and a native Australian line, Original Mineral.
On the Barbering side we offer men only the highest quality and performance products. STMNT Grooming Goods. A line created by Barbers themselves.

To date, one of our biggest accomplishments has been receiving two awards from our prestigious local magazine for Best Barber and Best New Business of 2021.
Received thanks to the votes of friends, family and locals.

We are where we are, and will continue to be, because our wonderful guests.
The love and support we receive tops any other recognition.

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.

This might be our most asked question as a husband and wife team.

We first met through mutual friends in 2015, but had no initial interest in each other, (Alex did think I was cute though).
Through volunteer work we kept seeing each other until 2018 where we crossed passed unexpectedly at an annual hair show in Orlando, FL.
A week later Alex expressed his feelings towards me but I turned him down as I felt unready to start a relationship.

Six months later he invited me to hang out with him and a group of friends. I nervously accepted.
What I thought wouldn’t lead to anything, led to us officially dating March 14, 2019.
September 8, 2019 Alex asked me to marry him.
March 14, 2020 we got married in Tampa, FL.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I think we all had to during the initial lockdown due to Covid-19 in 2020. Many negative feelings and anxiety overwhelmed many of us.

As our life changed, we began to change and evolve with it, not try to hold on to what life used to be like.

That helped us form new goals and keep us excited for our future together.

Today, we still continue to do the same. We change and evolve for what we strive to be the better. Not only as individuals, but as a couple, business owners, and artists.
