We were lucky to catch up with Alex Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alex thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first got into landscape photography and videography about 5 years ago, when I was 22. I had been in a transition period and didn’t know much about where I wanted to go or who I wanted to be. For some reason, I decided to take a weekend camping trip up to Zion National Park to get away, and I brought an old camera. I had always loved being outdoors but have yet to use a camera. I hiked up Angels Landing on this trip and was amazed by the views from the top of the canyon looking down into it. It was love at first photo. Being able to connect with a moment bigger than life itself through a little camera is when I knew that this is what I wanted to do.

Alex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Since I first got into nature photography, I have traveled the U.S. Southwest, capturing and sharing my experiences. Discovering my passion for photography has pushed me to explore more and go further, leading to visiting some fantastic places in the area that I would have never even known existed. The past 5 years I have spent working on my craft and am continually learning more and more.
I have since branched out beyond making content and optimizing content for my website through different blogs that cover everything hiking and landscape photography. I also sell prints online and have been working hard to create more and more of those.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My brand is called Present Moment Photographs because I believe in the power of the present moment. Landscape photography has opened my eyes to the world and the many amazing things. I used to think that Arizona was just a desert. Still, photography showed me how many unique and amazing places there are, which I know I would have only visited or even known about without seeking an experience through a lens. Photography and the present moment are unique because of the ability of a camera to capture an image in a fraction of a second. That same camera can also capture one image or snapshot of time as a long exposure over minutes. Weirdly, the ability of a camera to capture a moment over different variations of time shows that the present moment always exists, especially when paying attention. My goal is to share this same passion for great adventure and experiences in the present moment with others and hopefully inspire them to do more of what makes them feel alive.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is being noticed and appreciated by others. It is always such a great compliment to get recognition especially from other photographers. I also love to see people’s reaction when I take photos of them and they can’t believe how well the images turn out!
