We recently connected with Alex Magee and have shared our conversation below.
Alex, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
They key word here is funding, funding, & more funding! As a creative who aspires to be full time in ANY creative field you will definitely need funding and sponsors to contribute to bring your vision to life. Having early experiences in Hollywood has prepared me for the droughts that come with the industry. The best advice I can give to a young creative is to always have a financial plan B or find a job in an industry like F&B or DIY(lyft, uber eats, etc) that is flexible schedule wise, so if you need take time off you are able to!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In my freshman year of college at UNT, I lightly fractured my right ankle and was on crutches for about 6 months. A friend of mine knew I was getting down on myself and asked me to come to visit him in Los Angeles, unknowing to me he had this plan to ingratiate me into the Hollywood group he was already working in. Started off working as a PA for a production company that had a running contract with Disney, fast forward I’m promoted to 2nd Ad, and I’m styling my model best friend for castings, running lines with my actor best friend, after a while, it became a normal routine.
I spent every summer while in college taking risks out in Los Angeles and have just kept my foot on the gas, I look forward to people finding out more and exactly how some of the opportunities in my life have been landed. I do my best to bring real life emotion into my creative projects and I’m never scared to share my inspiration which I feel is either frowned upon or done in distasteful fashion currently. That’s definitely one thing that sets my work apart from others, the same way avant-garde has its lane in fashion, I’m carving my own creative vision the same way. The way I implement those things is by taking my life experiences no matter negative or positive, then I connect the dots & trust my intuition and never settle! I always would say growing up “My life is like a movie I can’t make this up” so I started writing my own short films.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you have to learn to accept failure but more importantly really learn and believe in patience and purpose. This journey is a long one, that’s the one thing that is guaranteed in this industry, nothing happens over night even if it seems like it…..PATIENCE IS KEY, STUDYING IS LONGEVIY!!!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
It sounds so simple in my opinion but I genuinely know it’s not! Be OPEN MINDED, if the consumers/critics just come to the table with that, I feel that’s a huge first step!

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NOT FOR TWIN, respectfully 🤞🏾💎
