Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alex Kittoe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind my mission is pretty simple to be honest. I believe that people should chase their passions early on in life with little fear of failing. It’s important to look back on life and at least know that you tried and gave something your all. Deciding to pursue photography full time has come with some very high highs and some very low lows, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Finding your passion, chasing that passion, and building a sustainable lifestyle is all possible. You just have to be willing to commit and work hard towards it every day.

Alex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Alex Kittoe and I am a photographer based in Colorado. About 5 years ago I bought my first camera and quickly fell in love with photography. I never had a niche or anything, I was really just infatuated with taking beautiful photos while traveling. I never really imagined it would be something that i’d be able to pursue outside of a hobby until a couple years ago when people started showing interest in buying my work. I spent awhile grinding at an advertising agency while spending nights and weekends trying to build some level of a photography business. I was shooting portraits, concerts, assisting other photographers, doing production, selling prints, selling NFTs, and just doing really whatever it took to make my dream a reality. It wasn’t until about 7 months ago that I was able to quit my job and pursue photography full time. Once people started showing a demand to buy my work, it gave me the confidence to go all in. I still have a long ways to go and life has been full of ups and downs, but being able to chase my passion every single day and create art for a living has been an incredible journey so far. Through my work, I aim to bring a sense of peace and nostalgia and there is no better feeling in the world to me than when people resonate with the work I am making.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are what made this career shift possible for me. Without NFTs I would never have gained the confidence to go all in on my photography. I have met so many incredible people and artists through the NFT space that have inspired me, pushed me to get better, and helped me understand how to grow a business with photography. Prior to joining the NFT space, I never really had a strong circle of successful creatives to motivate and inspire me on a daily basis. I am super grateful to have had a lot of supporters of my work in the NFT space as well and that is where most of my art sales come from. It’s a really great place for artists to be right now. If you can stick around for a long time and really believe in what you are doing even when things get tough, the possibilities of Web3 are truly endless. You just have to dive in head first and try to learn as much as possible and be patient. In the future, I don’t see NFTs going anywhere and I plan on being in this space for a long time as I continue to work on my long term vision and grow as an artist.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’d say my biggest mission is just being the best photographer that I can be. I want to take photos that invoke emotion, photos that people want to hang in their house and look at every day. There are so many ideas and genres of photography that I have never even explored and, to me, that is so exciting. There is always more to learn and always ways to improve which that keeps me really motivated. I also want to prove to myself that I can make this work and hopefully show others who have a passion to create that it is possible to go out on your own and chase your dreams. It’s not easy, but it is possible.
