We recently connected with Alex Karshis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I think about this regularly and focusing on what makes you happy is by far the most important lesson I have learned. I currently focus on my creative work rather than getting a regular job and I have been doing so since I graduated. I have many friends and clients that have regular jobs and I see how happy they are. Let’s just say I would trade my situation. Sure some of my friends are happy but having pure creative freedom over what I produce makes me so happy deep down.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Howdy, y’all
I’m Alex Karshis, a queer mix media artist based in Austin Texas. I started making my art when I came out at University and have been working on it since. I focus on queer spaces, paint, and many other mixed mediums.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support your local artist, tip your local drag queens, and vote!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had an iPad with the pencil sooner, it’s by far the most powerful tool for digital art. Also, Webflow and Spline are supper powerful web tools.
