Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alex Hines. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alex, appreciate you joining us today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
If I were to start over today, I would focus on a few key strategies to expedite my journey as an entrepreneur in the creative field. Here’s what I would do differently:
Niche Specialization: I’d define my niche even more precisely right from the beginning. Specializing in a specific style or genre of photography would help me stand out in a crowded market and attract clients who resonate with my unique vision.
Stronger Online Presence: Building a robust online presence is essential in today’s digital age. I’d invest more in my website, SEO, and social media marketing from the outset to ensure that potential clients can easily find and connect with me.
Networking: Networking is invaluable. I’d actively seek out opportunities to connect with other professionals in the wedding and creative industries. Building strong relationships with venues, wedding planners, and other vendors can lead to valuable referrals and collaborations.
Streamlined Workflow: I’d prioritize creating efficient and streamlined workflows for my photography projects. This would involve investing in tools and software that can automate administrative tasks, allowing me to focus more on creativity and client interaction.
Continuous Learning: Staying updated with the latest photography trends and techniques is crucial. I’d commit to continuous learning through workshops, courses, and mentorship programs to refine my skills and stay at the forefront of my field.
Financial Management: Proper financial management is key. I’d start early with a solid financial plan, including budgeting and setting aside funds for business growth, marketing, and emergencies.
Client Experience: I’d place an even greater emphasis on providing an exceptional client experience. Happy clients not only become repeat customers but also serve as brand ambassadors, helping to grow my business through word-of-mouth referrals.
Brand Identity: Crafting a strong and consistent brand identity would be a priority. From my logo to my photography style, I’d ensure that every aspect of my brand communicates the essence of my work and values.
Delegation: Learning to delegate tasks that are not my core strengths would allow me to focus on what I do best. I’d build a reliable team or outsource non-creative tasks to free up more of my time.
In essence, if I were starting over today, I’d approach my entrepreneurial journey with a well-defined niche, a robust online presence, a strong network, and efficient workflows, all while continuing to learn and adapt to the evolving landscape of the creative industry. These strategic choices would help me achieve my goals faster and more effectively.
Alex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My Craft: I offer wedding and event photography services that are not just about taking pictures but about weaving stories through images. I believe in the power of candid and documentary-style photography, which allows me to capture authentic emotions and genuine moments. My goal is to create timeless, evocative images that my clients will treasure for a lifetime.
The Problems I Solve: In a world filled with generic photography, I provide a unique and personalized experience. Client-Centric Approach: I prioritize building strong connections with my clients. Understanding their unique personalities, preferences, and vision for their event allows me to tailor my photography to their specific needs.
Unobtrusive Style: I believe that the best moments are often the most candid. My unobtrusive style ensures that I capture these moments without disrupting the flow of the event.
Attention to Detail: Whether it’s the delicate details of a wedding dress or the tender moments between loved ones, I pay close attention to the finer elements that make each event unique.
What I’m Proud Of: I’m immensely proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients. It’s an honor to be entrusted with capturing their most important moments, and the trust they place in me is truly humbling. The smiles, tears, and laughter I’ve been able to document are moments I hold dear.
