We recently connected with Alex Haines and have shared our conversation below.
Alex, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I went through middle school and high school performing music, joining band and choir, performing at the talent show, being in the school musicals. When I went to college to study music, I started getting good at acoustic guitar and started playing shows around my hometown. Enough time passed, and I started gaining a local following, and I slowly came to realize that I enjoyed playing for an audience. Enough time passed, and I soon realized that this was what I wanted to do with my life.
Alex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So, I’m a local singer/guitarist from DuBois, PA. I’ve been playing live for the last six years now, and recently I’ve been endeavoring on recording original music that I’ve been playing at my shows. My chief mission is to be good at what I do. I’m not going to go onstage and play a song that I don’t have the feeling for, because I know my audience doesn’t want that. They want to see me play at my best, and I always give them my best. Quality matters to me, it has always mattered to me. That’s what sets me apart from my peers in this business. I want someone to walk into a place I play at and smile know that they are going to get something really good.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It’s knowing that when the set’s finished, that I gave it my all and made sure my performance was as rewarding for the audience as it was for me. It’s always the crowd coming to congratulate me on a job well done, and how happy they were that they came to see me.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think people who aren’t in the business don’t realize just how much work is put into making music. You have to get there, you have to set up your equipment, you have to make sure it’s all working right, you gotta do a sound check, the list goes on and on. And then once you set everything up, now it’s time to give it your all for three hours, which can be very exhausting sometimes. There’s so much blood sweat and tears poured into performing that nobody outside of the business sees, and there’s always a surprise on their faces when I tell them about it. It’s just so fascinating.
