We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alex Gore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alex, appreciate you joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today

Looking back on our journey, there are a few key changes I would implement if starting anew with my current knowledge.

First, I would establish a robust outreach system to connect with contractors and developers aligned with our vision.

Secondly, I would prioritize defining and refining our unique process to showcase the distinct value we offer to clients.

Lastly, I would hire an executive assistant or office manager earlier to handle time-consuming tasks, allowing me to focus on core business strategies. These adjustments would undoubtedly streamline our growth and efficiency, positioning us for accelerated success in the market

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I was into architecture at a young age. When I was young I was always drawing. Manly wars between ants and bees, or pirates and the navy. In middle school I was drawing houses, libraries, and city layouts. In high school I developed those skills by taking many drafting classes.

Our architecture firm designs residential and commercial architecture creating innovative, functional, and beautiful designs that reflect the unique style and spirit of our clients.

Our process is what sets us apart.
1) We mimic the construction process in our modeling of your project. This means:
a) We model the structure ourselves, instead of farming it out to a 3rd party, so we make sure the building works right.
b) We eliminate errors in the design phase so they don’t happen in the construction phase.
c) We provide clients with the 3D model so they can walk through the project themselves before it gets built.
2) Our firm is built on nine strong foundational values. Which can be seen here. https://f9productions.com/f9-foundations/ For example F4 is Communicate! Respond within one hour if possible! No one likes waiting in limbo. Respond to all forms of contact within one hour even if it is to let them know you are working on it. Then give them a timeline of when you think the issue will be resolved. It is better to resolve problems early rather than let them bite you in the rear. If it is not possible to respond in one hour then within 24 hours is acceptable!
3) We focus on improvement. We have a construction arm that provides constant feedback and improvements to our design team. We truly go beyond the standard level of care and create designs tailored to the field. Also everyone at our firm is expected to make a process improvement every other week and share it with the group. We can this is our 5 Minute Morning Lean meetings. Each a staff member reviews, a project, a problem, a process improvement, a win, and links one of these to one of F9’s values!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I think the basics are easily missed for some reason. I suppose they are missed because people get busy, have deadlines, and are stressed. Thus they miss the easy things like communicating quickly, training their people, and reviewing their work. This is because these are afterthoughts, something to do if you have time. F9 is the opposite, these are first priorities, communication, training, and improvement come first. This allows our work to be done faster and to a higher caliber.
