We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex Garcia . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex below.
Alex , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Being an artist is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing to be able to do what you love but it’s a curse to not be able to “clock out”. As an artist you’re always working, either on projects or the business side of things. My whole life is built around this.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got started in art as a child. I’ve always loved to draw since kindergarten. I continued as I grew up inspired by comic books, graffiti and architectural digest magazine. After some art classes I got more into painting then into tattooing. Right now I’m currently spreading myself into a lot of projects and not just painting and tattooing. Im slowly getting to making art videos, sculpture, crafting things I’ve always wanted to make and writing. All the projects I work on cause me to be secluded but when I tattoo is when I work with others and it gives me a chance to collaborate on ideas to produce something for the client. This gives me a certain satisfaction that only tattooing can give and the best part about this is when clients turn into friends.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
That story is still going on today but I persevere because there is no plan B. There is no other option but success. I can’t do anything else but art. Wether glory or poverty this is the only way. There are no options.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I took advantage of all the free knowledge on YouTube all these years. During the lock down I took the time to soak up as much as I could from different artists videos. I put myself through a sort of private school. It took my art into a new level and I grew a lot in a difficult time. I still regularly watch videos that help me grow instead of watching tv shows. Nothing beats being in a class with other students but YouTube has help me grow and I feel is a power tool that’s greatly overlooked and underappreciated.
