We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex Forero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex below.
Alright, Alex thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Ever since the pandemic, I started a Twitch show called “monsterbeats” . in this weekly show i have a diferent artist invited, that artist brings a sample thats uploaded to our website and we conduct an interview with the guest that lasts 45-50 minutes. in that time span, the audience has to dowload the sample, remix it and send it back before the timer runs out. after that we react with the guest and listen to all the demos
the main objective of this show is bringing consolidated artists and new talents together, give spotlight to younger producers and keep em motivated an make them feel part of a community.
JAvier Loyola (the one that recommended me for this. is an active part of that community)
WEve been doing this for almost 3 years now, and im proud of having a show today that has artists invited froma ll around the world (highlights : NGTHMRE, VITO FINNAMORE, MUERTE, PROTOHYPE (USA) LADYBEARD (JAPAN) ALEMAN (MX) )
We have a very welcoming community and were eager to let more people know about what happens evey wednesday in this music production show that has been growing with us since 2020
Alex, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
my name is alex forero. im a dj/producer from santiago chile and ive been involved in music for about 17 years
from very early stages of my life music has been a huge part of my days. for 7 years i was part of a bass music duo called VIVES & FORERO, and together we achieved major festivals and traveled all around south america and chile (creamfields, ultra, lollapalooza)
afyer a very succesfull 5 yearsi quit med school and went to icon collective in los angeles california (with money that i didint have) to study music production. after a sour episode with my visa, i had to come back before i could finish my studies. i was living over there with my best friend and b2b and we were just boked for lollapalooza chile 2017 everything was perfect and i had to go back to chile. i was now alone, finishing my studies online and back in my fathers apartment. somehow i got the courage to get back from that knowing that that was my life know and if i wanted lo live off my music it going to be rough sometimes.
after 7 years we decided to split vives & forero and my solo career started. from this point on i devoted my career on using my contacts and conections with the music industry to help young producers avoid the same mistakes i made and help em connect with bigger artists (by doing my twitch show and playing their music in my sets)
at the moment i live off my music, I teach ableton live and how to DJ, I host a twitch show dedicated to build a community that supports each other and loves music and I have and active DJ career where I still perform at festivals and clubs on a weekly basis
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
the goal or mission in an artist career is very subjective. I think every artist has to ask him/herself “why i am even involved in music?” having the goal clear helps us know where to run to.
I think trying to achieve happiness and stability through my music is and always will be my main goal, regardless on how many plays, likes, or how known I am
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
during creamfields 2015 I went to the edge of the stage on our third song to jump with the crowd and motivate em for the next drop. when I jumped i landed on a big cable and I broke one of the ligaments of my knee. I was wearing a mask so no one could see the pain in my face, i went back to the booth and thank god we were a duo and Fernando could keep playing. After almost passing out and chugging a redbull and a glass of whiskey, o grabbed my leg put it on top of a case and kept playing for the entirety of the set (we had an hour 15 to go still)
