We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alex Dispence a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alex, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I was a successful chef, I was only 24 or 25 when I first became a head chef. During the 2019 pandemic I started making cooking videos, one thing led to the next and I had grown a small following in early 2020. By 2021 I knew it was time to take a risk. I left my executive chef job and went full time as a content creator! I have been running my own business since, and I have also started an adjacent pizza company under the same brand!

Alex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a chef from Buffalo, NY. I’ve worked in some of Americas toughest kitchens and now run Supchef; having one and half million followers on social media for my cooking videos. I also own supchef pizza co. A buffalo based pizza company that sells pizza products!

How’d you meet your business partner?
When I started supchef pizza co. I knew we would be beyond my level. I knew we would need someone who is knowledgeable in large scale food manufacturing! So I called Buffalo bakery legend Mark Didomenico for some help, one thing led to the next and we ended up partnering on this project!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had made cooking videos almost every single day until I gained over 500K followers. I was addicted to seeing the account grow! When I was talking to editors at food network they were literally blown away about my output! I was doing this alone, working 70+ hours as an executive chef! It’s not a brag! I would have done almost anything to give myself an avenue to free my self from just working for someone else.
