We recently connected with ALEX CIRILO and have shared our conversation below.
ALEX, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
It started when a friend of mine, Robert Almodovar left Puerto Rico to go study audio at Full Sail University. He is one of the top live mixing engineers that is currently touring with Cultura Profetica around the world. He offered to teach me Pro Tools and it’s an opportunity I will always be appreciative of.
What skill was most essential? That’s easy – my hunger and love for music. I am always wanting to know and learn more about all thing’s audio, it is very much my passion.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Receiving feedback has a great effect on me as a creative. Collaborating and consideration on how something is received, is a huge motivator.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Having a music career whether as a musician, producer, mixing engineer, etc., there are always a thousand obstacles that will appear along the way. Many times, you question your desire to continue, but over time I learned that it was key for me to understand; with more depth, how the music business works. I took a very close look at myself and started to think about where I could grow and how I could best branch out. That realization led me to start working as an audio post engineer which at the time was a niche that was nowhere near as popular as the boom that audio engineering is today.
