We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alex Bosin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alex, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The draw for me into photography was in one way or another always related back to storytelling. I grew up loving stories – learning, reading, telling, and creating stories. In my pastimes, I can remember sitting at a blinking mouse, typing as fast as I could from the ages of 10-14 years old writing mini books and stories each summer. Photography is now my outlet to tell other peoples’ stories and help them create a legacy that outlives their love. As a professional Marriage and Portrait Photographer, I have the extreme privilege of documenting and capturing love stories between my couples in a natural, joyful, timeless way in order to produce refined and elegant imagery that couples can be proud to pass down and share inter-generationally. Similar to my couples, I hope my legacy reflects a woman who loved to serve others, empower others to know they are beautiful the way God created them, and one that reflects a passion for people, stories, and details. I hope to be remembered as a wife, mother, and friend who would go out of her way to help others, and had a kind thing to say about those she encountered. I also hope to be remembered for loving and serving the Lord through my local church, volunteering, and my personal faith brought to others.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi friends! My name is Alex, lead photographer and owner of Alexandra Joy Photography, a personal marriage and portrait photography brand that serves couples who believe their wedding day is the start of ever after. After a detailed rebrand over the past several months, I just relaunched in the final week of May. My passion for photography stems from storytelling and cultivating my love for sharing other peoples’ stories as I see them in front of my lens. This is accomplished through refined and elegant imagery shared in a joyful, natural, timeless way. My goal for my couples is that they can look back on their legacy of love for years to come and relive those meaningful moments over and over again. I simply capture, document, and provide the tools for my couples to feel and see, “I love you” through a completely customized fine art luxury marriage experience. Services at Alexandra Joy Photography include items such as a boutique experience catered to meet the needs of my individual clients, quick turn around times with sneak peeks, blog posts, and high resolution digital files, as well as access to my professional printing lab and custom album designs. Through a complimentary client consultation, I focus on my couples’ unique vision and perspective for their wedding days and get to know them as a couple and individuals so I can be sure I’m serving them in the best possible way! Additionally, with the launch of my rebrand is the launch of the mentoring portion of my business where I now offer creative, service based entrepreneurs a look into establishing a legal business in year one so they can do more that helps their business to grow and thrive rather than be in the trenches. I found a great need for service based providers starting up and want to help fill this gap!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
A big part of getting started for me was ensuring I did not go into debt to do so. My husband and I prioritized budgeting, tithing, and saving the same way we did before my business launch. It took some finessing and moving items around as priorities shifted, but the goal was the same: that we would continue to live by our budgeted dollars, within our means, not relying on loans to start up Alexandra Joy Photography. Budgeting is something both of us feel very passionate about, and something we regularly teach to our couples who work with us in premarital counseling. As needed, and to help fund items faster, I regularly worked extra shifts at my day job (Pediatric Nurse) so that we could have more cash to set aside as needs arose.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission of my business started with the simple idea that God creates on purpose and everyone deserves to feel beautiful the way God created them. It’s the principle that drove my rebrand, launch, and serving couples all around. I love making people feel loved and serving in a way that shows I care about them. I’ve now created a fine art, luxury brand serving as a Marriage and Portrait Photographer to document couples’ love stories in a way that preserves their legacy to outlast their love. I hope it is a story they tell with passion to future generations and feel confident when passing down!
