We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alessandro Caria a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alessandro, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
I pride myself in making everything from scratch, starting with high quality vanilla and natural flavors. I love when people try my homemade fondant for the first time and fall in love with the flavor. Does it take extra time and effort? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely yes. The biggest compliment I get is that all my baked goods taste just as good as they look. Which is why I have a such a high rate of returning customers!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a 40years old home baker originally from Italy and currently living in Windermere FL, right next door to the most magical place on earth, Walt Disney World!
I’m a fun, outgoing and skilled home baker. I love the feeling of competing, showcasing my skills and get my creative juices flowing!
Like the good Italian boy that I am, I spend most of my time in the kitchen, baking and cooking. And when I am not in the kitchen, you can find me outside playing with our dog, Daisy!
I like to think that my friends describe me as a caring, fun, positive person. I’m the kind of person that sees that glass half full and offer unconditional love and support.
I was born and raised in the beautiful island of Sardinia, Italy so needless to say I spent all of my summers growing up at the beach. I am also an August baby and one of my most favorite memories growing up was getting to spend my birthday at the beach, order pizza and stay until it got dark for a swim at night.
Living in Florida feels like an endless summer, and we love taking our pup to the dog beach, going on cruises, swimming and enjoying all the wonderful summer produce!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had just started growing my business when Covid hit. I was furloughed from my full time job and all the sudden the world shut down. I thought that was going to be the end of daisy cakes, with no celebrations or people gatherings in sight. And then I decided to switch gears, offer things like cookie decorating kits, cupcakes and focus on smaller cakes and just about anything I could think of that would suit a small family celebration. Little did I know, customers loved that idea and orders started to come in. Not only I was able to make it through some rough months, but I was able to expand my network and reach out lots of people that I never would have otherwise.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is so hard to keep up with!!! Being a one man show, I have to keep making time to edit photos, videos, post them etc. the biggest advice I was given was to let the algorithm do its thing. Yes I asked everyone I knew to follow me on every platform but using the right hashtags and tags, I was able to reach a much wider audience. I don’t have a huge following, but it grows steadily and I truly use my social as a way to promote my business
