We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alesia Galati a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alesia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
You’ll find much information about starting a podcast “messy” or launching it in two weeks. I strongly believe that you should put more effort and upfront research into podcasting. That’s why even though there are over 5 million podcasts available today, only about 400 thousand are coming out with new content.
If you want to launch a podcast, it’s important that you do market research to determine if it’s an option that actually makes sense before you put all the time, effort, and money into something you won’t stick with.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My background is in manufacturing production planning and supply chain analytics. I never imagined that the skills I learned in my corporate job would lead me to be a podcast production agency owner, but here I am. I run a full-service podcast management agency, Galati Media. That means our clients record, and my team does the rest. I also live in sunny North Carolina with my husband and two small boys. So when I’m not working, you can find me reading, chasing my kids around, or watching the latest Star Wars with my husband.
At Galati Media, we help business owners and thought leaders use their podcasts to generate leads and brand awareness. The team is dedicated to making our clients (and their guests) show up as their best selves so they can stay in their zone of genius. We love being able to amplify the voices of the people we serve. But we don’t just stop with the production side. We also support our clients with strategic content planning, market research, marketing promotion, and even sponsorship strategy.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
There have been a few strategies that have been tried and true for us. Our most effective is through client referrals and strategic partnerships. We focus heavily on creating an incredible customer experience for our clients, so they are happy to send new clients our way. Our processes and systems ensure that every client gets the same level of attention, so they feel comfortable and confident that we will give them our very best if they refer someone.
The second is strategic partnerships. We’ve partnered with a few strategic people in compatible industries. These people serve our potential clients in a different capacity than us, so there isn’t a conflict of interest when they send potential clients our way. In addition, we have agreements set up so that our strategic partners get compensated for the clients that sign through them.
Both of these strategies have been effective in bringing in quality clients.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
While I was working my corporate job as an inventory analyst, I launched two of my own podcasts. I loved the process and medium so much that I decided to turn it into a side hustle. When the pandemic hit, I was part of the first group that got laid off from my job. That next week, I decided to turn this entire business, and it’s been quite a journey since then.
In the beginning, there was a lot of noise and confusion around the business model I wanted to pursue. Agencies don’t get much attention in the online entrepreneur space, but they are a tried and true business model. So after about nine months of testing the work, creating processes, and proving it worked, I started looking at building my team.
Some key milestones were replacing my corporate income within six months and hiring my first team member within nine months. Another milestone for me personally was being asked to speak at industry events and landing corporate clients and nonprofit companies.
