We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alena Banks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alena, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
At the start of photography, I would post photoshoot ideas on social media and then a friend of mine reached out to me and said she would be interested to create one of the ideas with me. She became my first client. The scenery was by a river on a summer day and it all turned out really great for my first project.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always had a love for cameras, as a child. So it became a fun craft for me, until 2014 and I wanted to start a photography business.
I do most photography services (Weddings and Family/Children portraits). These days, I’m open to all creative outlets including music photography and content creation.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Creating photoshoots, collaborations with other photographers and artists, stepping out to events and meeting new people and joining local clubs.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When people see my work and they can read the vibe or story behind my photos, or to even come up with stories of their own of how they see my work.
