Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alejo Vega. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alejo, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The name of my Productions company “ McPree Productions Films is a funny one actually. While the name McPree sounds like a name of Irish origin it is totally not an Irish name. Which I get a lot of when mentioning the name. I always get the question “Are you Irish?” To which my response is “No I’m Cuban”.
The name actually stems off an inside joke I had with my cousins. Years ago my cousin was attending chef school, and his instructor last name was McRee. Us being the jokesters and silly people we are starting doing derivatives of the name using Mc in front of everything. As sort of a way of just entertaining ourselves during a long orientation. Being that we are Cuban we starting using the term “McPri” which is mixing Mc and the Spanish term for cousin which is primo. Mix the two and you get McPree… with a small spelling correction.
Once I decided to create the company I named it McPree since I had a bunch of the cousins start off with me on that filming journey making short comedy sketches and skits. And thus the name McPree Productions Films.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I pretty much grew up around Film and movies my whole life. My mom used to be a part of Miami international film festival and thats where I got my initial love for the industry, being around that crowd from a very young age.
I remember inside to go after school to my mothers job and sneak into the viewing room and spend hours watching indie films and submissions sent in for free.
I noticed myself looking at the films differently, noticing shots, angles, lighting, writing, etc….
As I got older I decided to make it a part of my life and started acting and producing short films and sketches

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my determination, persistence, knowledge, and love for my industry is what’s help build my reputation. I’ve always prided myself on being as knowledgeable as I can, and I m always eager and willing to help others at my level or the ones who are starting out. I feel if I would’ve had someone like me to help me out along the way I wouldn’t have had as many hiccups or ebbs and flows in my career,
It took a lot of bumpy roads to get where I am now, and if I can pass along my knowledge to the ones with less experience. We are all better for it as a community.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I started out with no capital to start my business. And started doing work for free in order to build my name brand. In acting I started casting myself in my own productions, I knew I wanted to act and with little experience and no productions. I had to make something and knew I wanted to be in and make movies. So I started my production company in order to act.
