We were lucky to catch up with Alejandry Rohena recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandry, thanks for joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?

Yes, I am happy to be a business owner. At first everything was very difficult and without ruling out that everything was new for me being a businesswoman who manages her own business alone. It’s all a matter of time to learn and improve every step you take in your business, we must remember that now as an entrepreneur we depend on ourselves, a regular job is not bad and will never be bad, since you really have a permanent job. I work with a fixed salary. Of course I have thought about what it would be like to have a regular job but thinking about my business that I started with a lot of effort, I really completely forget about wanting to look for a regular job. Having a business is a daily challenge, where we have to look for new clients, keep our regular clients, work on good marketing, improve our way of speaking with clients and with important people in the business world, obtain a lot of patience when something goes wrong. It comes out the way we want.

I have had my good and bad moments, it is normal when you start a solo path, being afraid is human when you start your first business. I have had my moments of giving up and looking for a regular job, but the truth is that it will not be the same, when you start to have the flexibility to be able to do other things and have a little time for yourself and enjoy life a little more, without having to ask permission to get vacations. I repeat, having a regular job is not bad but there are many limitations that we have when we work for someone who does not value you as an employee or you simply do not like the type of work but you do it because you have a fixed salary. Thanks to my previous jobs I have learned a lot and I have valued each job, and I also learn to see work life in a different way.

Alejandry, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Alejandry Rohena, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I am a fairly calm and introverted woman but with always focused vision. I previously worked in the Department of Health in Epidemiology.

I entered the aviation industry 5 years ago when in 2017-2018 I moved to Chicago where he gave me the opportunity to work as a Detailer in a company that offered Detailing services for private aircraft. At that moment my taste for improving the appearance of airplanes began, so I began to concentrate on the work and learn everything, really that job for me was a school of learning, I have to thank the person who gave me the opportunity because It made me realize what I really like.

In 2019 I started my own business in Puerto Rico where I started washing cars in the garage of my mother’s house, but my focus has been to offer my services to airplanes. During that time where I started my own business, I studied and got certified to obtain more reliable training without forgetting to continue improving my skills. I currently have around 10 certifications in Aircraft and Auto Detailing, specializing in paint correction and ceramic treatment. Currently my company Alejandry Detailing Solutions offers services for airplanes, helicopters, automobiles and boats, including upholstery services, hangar and office cleaning. We are currently located in Florida and Puerto Rico with some possibility of expanding to Houston Texas.

I am beginning to specialize as a private aircraft broker and work with an aircraft buyer or seller to complete the sale of an aircraft. In most cases, an aircraft broker’s duties include facilitating the process from initial discussions to final closing of the sale. Additionally, we offer the service of pre-purchase inspection, consulting, management and control of maintenance programs.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Building my reputation has come down to being present digitally as well as physically (in-person). Considering we are a new firm it was important that we get our name out to the industry. Initially it began with the digital presence, Building the website along with the various social media handles.

Beginning to post regularly on the platforms to document the process. Then as you begin to interact with more individuals in person and they connect with you digitally it builds on the ecosystem that creates your reputation.

The key element that really helped build my reputation was being the same person online as I am in person. This shows that you are genuine and a person living a normal life just like everyone else. At the end of the day people want to connect and relate to one another. Finding that common ground is incredibly important when building a reputation in any industry.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

The first lesson is to know how to stay away from negative people, when you enter the business world you must look around you and stay away from people or things that will not let you climb higher. We must remember that as is the good, so is the bad, there are people who do not like your happiness or your achievements and will do anything to try to unfocus you from your vision. The most difficult lesson we have to go through is being alone when we start a new business, because it entails a lot of sacrifice and time to get where we want to go.
