Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alejandro Zambrano. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alejandro , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I entered Columbia College Hollywood as a director but i started in G&E on my first set. The Director of Photography appreciated my work ethic and would bring me along to work on his other projects where I learned about equipment and set etiquette as well as work on some really cool projects. By my sophomore year, myself and a handful of other classmates were the go to G&E recommendations.
Around this time I started to develop an ego when it came to working on sets that eventually burned a few partnerships. Something that I am glad I learned early on was how to check that ego and leave it behind in school.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I work in the Grip & Electric department in various positions such as Key Grip or Dolly Grip. I originally went to school to be a director but got my start working on sets as a grip. Over time, I acquired enough of my own equipment and began going on to jobs with my own equipment package.
I’ve taken the opportunity to work on as many projects as I can at the same time be able to provide production value for my own projects.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I would like to have my own production or film creation company working as a director. Directing has always been the endgame for me, when I’m not working on set I’m writing scripts and storylines to film with my friends.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Definitely being able to work on set was a goal of mine ever since I got into film. I’ve worked with a lot of people on some really cool projects from feature films to music videos.
