We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alejandro Lopez . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alejandro below.
Hi Alejandro , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I started to realize I had a passion for hair when I started growing my own hair out in high school. I didn’t know how to take care of it so I would watch hair care videos. I thought it was so interesting so I then started watching color videos and braid videos, cutting videos etc it all was so interesting to me and my passion for hair started at that point and time

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Alejandro lopez I am an intricate braider and vivid color artist in Orlando Florida, I work in a salon in downtown Orlando called atelier salon I am 22 years old and I got into the industry about 4 ish years total including hair school after getting licensed I went straight into a salon where I was an assistant for close to 2 years untill I Worked myself up to my own chair. On my down time I would braid a lot and create intricate braided styles that just sorta took a life on its own i have always had a huge imagination so I think that played a huge role in a lot of my braided creations that I’ve created in the past and that I still create to this day I can be inspired by anything even something as simple as a piece of ribbon I’ll try and figure out how I can incorporate something I find interesting into hair
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding part of being an artist is being able to be free to create whatever you want !! Your imagination is endless of ideas and concepts to create from it’s just taking those ideas and making them come to life I’ll look back on some work I’ve done in the past and it will just bring me happiness to know that this is a piece of art that I created with my own 2 hands and with my imagination

Have you ever had to pivot?
So my first job ever was McDonald’s I had a part time job working there and I was also going to hair school at the same time, I remember how I would take clients in my room and do there hair, then I would get dressed really fast and walk to work and start my shift from 5pm to midnight I remember feeling I was wasting my time there cause all I wanted To do was hair so one day I got in an argument with my employer and I remember telling myself what am I doing here I felt like this job was preventing me from continuing my passion for hair, during this day I had a new uniform waiting for me in the office that I had put a request for. I remember looking at that uniform my entire shift telling myself “ if I take that uniform then it means that I’m going to continue to work here” so I built up enough courage to leave that job after that shift and never Turing back, putting in all my Focus and energy into hair and my craft I remember being so scared about the repercussions but I think had i took that new uniform I would of been there for a longer time instead of focusing on my dream
