We recently connected with Alejandro Caiazza and have shared our conversation below.
Alejandro , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
am happy with being an artist, because I p (feminine)
I am happy with being an artist, because it allows me to be free, not have schedules, and also experiment and express my feelings in today’s society, I could not have a normal job.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Alejandro Caiazza (1972) of Italian origin, I grew up in Venezuela, my first exhibition was at the Sala De Arte de Sidor 1999 (Pinturas Negras) although I did some studies, I consider myself self-taught, I have exhibited in Venezuela, Paris (France) Yokohama (Japan) Rome (Italy) etc. I currently live in New York City where I work and exhibit, I am represented by Van Der Plas Gallery (Lower East Side NYC) Winston Scott Gallery (Warwick NY) & Creativebloch Art Gallery (Brooklyn), my Art generally talks about everyday feelings, violence, sexuality, mundane themes and everyday experiences..
My Art is considered brut and neo-expressionist where they balance the whimsical with the grotesque. Expressive figures in a vivid, textured style.
“Naive but sharply witty characters are directly reflected in the behavior of society: ugly painted faces reflect ugly behavior.”
• My paintings and collages often portray a humorous theme with a dark meaning, involving the viewer in the silliness of the present with a warning of what is to come. Although it initially appears whimsical and charming with a childlike innocence, it reveals much deeper and darker aspects of our human condition: drawing inspiration from daily life and emotions, the uncertainty of social unrest and political conflicts.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing is being able to express myself freely and be in communication with the viewer through my art, being able to transmit something and generate important feelings in the public..and be able to be in reciprocal communicati…
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What drives my creative journey is making the public aware of situations that we experience daily and in which we can often lack empathy, so I can say that it is humanizing the viewer who is sometimes alienated by whatever their reality may be.
