Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alejandro Bustamante-Martinez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alejandro, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve always been curious and eager to learn, whether it’s about design or music. One time, while being at sea on a cruise ship as a teenager, I took a Photoshop course and was blown away by the possibilities. I bought my own copy of Photoshop and started experimenting with it every day. I even entered contests on forums and made designs for friends.
I don’t think you need any particular skills to get into design these days; just patience and a willingness to learn the software. One challenge I faced was the lack of tutorials back then. YouTube wasn’t around yet, so I had to buy design magazines to learn techniques. But I stuck with it, explored, and built my skills.

Alejandro, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, my name is Alejandro Bustamante-Martinez, and I consider myself a creative person at heart. From a young age, I’ve always had an inclination towards music and creative expression. I have fond memories of experimenting with melodies and beats on a keyboard my parents had, as well as collaborating on movie projects with my friends in the neighborhood.
My passion for creativity took root during high school when I discovered graphic design. I spent my spare time honing my skills and building my portfolio, which ultimately led to my acceptance into the DESMA program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for my bachelor’s degree. While at UCLA, I deepened my love for music and pursued a career as a DJ and producer.
After graduating from UCLA, I was fortunate enough to land my first full-time job as a social media manager for SIZE Records, a record label founded by Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia fame. This experience gave me invaluable exposure to the music industry and allowed me to work alongside some of the most accomplished artists in the field.
Today, I am the Creative Manager at SALXCO, a leading music management company. In this role, I have worked on numerous high-profile projects, including official album artworks, pitch decks, and merchandise for major artists and companies.
In addition to my current role at SALXCO, I have also been pursuing my passion for music as ‘Currents’. This has led to some exciting opportunities, such as performing at CRSSD Festival, the LA Galaxy’s ‘Extra Time!’ events, and various parties for Miami Music Week. I have several solo releases as well as some collaborations planned for the year ahead.
I firmly believe that my hard work and commitment to maintaining respectful relationships have been key to the success I have achieved so far. I strive to always keep a positive attitude and to never burn bridges, as I believe that persistence and professionalism will ultimately lead to success in any field.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of my work is bringing my visions to life and expressing myself through my creations. It’s an indescribable feeling to be able to connect with others through my work and to possibly have an impact on their lives. Additionally, the process of creation itself is incredibly fulfilling, whether it’s the challenge of solving creative problems or the satisfaction of seeing my ideas come to fruition. It’s this combination of personal expression and the joy of the creative process that makes being an artist or creative so fulfilling for me.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I strongly believe that we should show more support for our local artists and talent. It’s easy to take them for granted simply because we see them regularly at certain venues or events. However, we should shift our perspectives and recognize the value of their work. After all, we’re willing to pay top dollar to watch well-known artists perform. By showing more appreciation and support for local talent, we can help them gain the recognition and success they deserve.
