We recently connected with Alejandra Rivera and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alejandra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To succeed in life, one must have a few traits: adaptability, perseverance, and passion. As an immigrant, these three traits have been essential to my life. They have provided me with success not only in my business and career but also in my new life in the United States. Life is unpredictable. You will experience setbacks and challenges, but what separates the individuals who succeed from those who don’t is how they handle those obstacles. If you are adaptable, you are able to roll with the punches and navigate through hard times in pursuit of your goal. Perseverance allows you to stick through your work despite the challenges; it is not giving up even when times are tough. Lastly, I think passion is essential to success. Without passion, there is no motivation. It is what will encourage you to get through tough times and continue to succeed after it all. It will be the driving force behind everything you do, and most importantly, it will make you love what you do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, my name is Alejandra Rivera, and I am the proud owner of Your Organizing Studio. Your Organizing Studio is a professional organizing business dedicated to helping individuals find peace of mind through the power of organization. I firmly believe that an organized life starts with an organized home, so my goal is to help people feel more in control by decluttering their homes. I offer various services to help my clients: Hands-on organization, unpacking services, interior styling and staging, holiday decorating, and monthly maintenance packages. Whether you need help organizing your space, unpacking after a big move, or even decorating during the holiday season — I am here to help alleviate some of that stress so you can focus on what is truly important to you. I work with my clients to create systems that function for them. No project is the same because everyone has different needs, goals, and lifestyles.
I understand it can be daunting to let a stranger into your home and your life; however, all of my work is confidential. Trust me — I get it. Life is unpredictable and can get crazy at times. You should not be ashamed of the state of your home. It is an honor and a privilege to work with each and every one of my clients to help them create a functional and beautiful space they can be proud of. Whether you want someone to do all of the work for you or someone to help walk you through each step, I prioritize my client’s needs and comfort in creating their new spaces.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A story demonstrating my resilience was when I immigrated to the United States. Coming to the United States at 30 with three kids under six was stressful and difficult. Especially since I did not speak English that much then, it was hard being away from family, and I felt very isolated at first. While challenging, I never let it stop me from chasing my dreams. I cared for my children, learned English, started my business, and applied myself to become the best version of myself I could for my family.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have had to pivot a lot in life. If you had told me, as a child, that I would be a business owner in the United States, I would not have believed you. I spent the first 30 years of my life in Guatemala, where I received a degree in Business Administration and started my family. When my husband and I decided to immigrate to the United States, I was scared. I was moving away from family and friends, I did not speak much English, and I had three young children with me. I was a stay-at-home mom during my first ten years in the United States. I was adapting to a new country, learning English, and taking care of my family all at the same time. When my children became older and I had more free time, I realized I wanted to rediscover myself and my identity. I became more confident in myself and my skills, so I decided to start working again. First, I was a Spanish teacher at schools; however, I knew that my life-long passion was for organization. Going from a stay-at-home mom to an entrepreneur was difficult; It was a lot to adjust to. I spent a lot of time taking courses, learning more about the industry, and starting through trial and error. Although it was hard, I am thankful I stuck through it all. I have met wonderful people, become a NAPO member, and started a community called Pro Organizers Latinas with other Hispanic organizers. It has been a long journey, but I have loved every second.
