We were lucky to catch up with Alejandra Iorgulescu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alejandra , appreciate you joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I completely understand how challenging it can be to step away from business, especially when you are the sole driving force behind it, as is my case. However, I firmly believe that taking time off is not just beneficial—it’s essential. It allows you to recharge, regain momentum, and return with fresh inspiration.
In fact, I hadn’t taken a long vacation in over a decade, so a few weeks ago, I made the decision to take a full month off. And wow—what a difference it made! Stepping away gave me the clarity and renewed focus I needed, and I came back feeling more energized and motivated than ever.
Alejandra , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely! My name is Alejandra, though most people in the U.S. call me Alex. I’m an outdoor enthusiast and road-trip lover, and my passion for exploration has shaped much of my life. I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where my love for adventure began during childhood road trips to Patagonia with my family.
That love for travel truly solidified in 2001, when I took my first solo trip through Europe. It was a transformative experience—one that sparked a lifelong desire to explore new places. A year later, feeling restless and eager for a new challenge, I made the bold decision to move to California. The diverse landscapes, endless opportunities for adventure, and breathtaking scenery made it the perfect place to call home.
My content creator persona on YouTube, however, came much later. It wasn’t until I embarked on a solo cross-country road trip from Los Angeles to Georgia and back that the idea for my channel, Miles and Hikes, was born. By then, I had already built a solid career in the software and web technologies industry, so even though it came with its sets of challenges, it was not that hard to launch and maintain.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Creativity isn’t just something I do—it’s an integral part of who I am. I’ve always been drawn to creative expression, and I find that having a creative outlet is essential for me to feel fulfilled, both personally and professionally. Even alongside my more traditional jobs, I’ve always sought ways to incorporate creativity because it keeps me engaged and inspired. In many ways, it’s like therapy for my soul—it fuels my passion, drives innovation, and helps me bring fresh perspectives to everything I do.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency is key, especially on YouTube, where competition is incredibly high. It’s not just about maintaining a regular upload schedule—though that’s important—but also ensuring consistency in branding, messaging, style, and overall content delivery. Audiences come to expect a certain experience from a creator, and maintaining that reliability helps build trust and engagement over time. I believe that a strong, cohesive presence across all aspects of a channel is essential for long-term success.
