We recently connected with Alejandra Galvan and have shared our conversation below.
Alejandra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Quality control is a challenge almost every entrepreneur has had to focus on when growing – any advice, stories or insight around how to best ensure quality is maintained as your business scales?
It is estimated that it takes three to four years for a business to become financially profitable, but I can say that I have been making experiential moments profitable from day one. I began preparing to open this business at the end of 2020 with nothing but motivation, positivity, and determination. I also had to keep in mind that for this to work, quality had to be at the top of my priorities. Not only is it important for me to offer products with distinctive qualities and identities, but also the utmost quality of client service. In the Hispanic culture, the process and meaning of planning “los quince años” is one of the most important, and because of that, I want to make sure that the value of the journey is everything and more than what my customers are expecting. In order to maintain the best quality I can offer as my business grows, I am using that experiential profit daily to be able to accomplish this.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began this business with my mother in mind. She has been a big influence for me when it comes to keeping traditions alive in our culture, and that is what led me to focus on Quinceañeras. The process of planning los quince años starts at fourteen-years-old; the big, beautiful dress and all the purposeful accessories that come with it are at the center of the tradition, and that is what I offer. What sets me apart from other quinceañera businesses or stores is that for me, there is meaning behind every action and every step that must be taken while planning this important event. I want to make sure that my clients are able to find exactly what they are looking for, and to be able to execute this sometimes-stressful process for my customers in the lightest and most enjoyable way. I am most proud of the patience I offer during this year-long venture because I understand that these tasks are a team effort between my clients and myself.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
There is a saying in Spanish that goes “De la vista nace el amor”, which could be translated figuratively to “the heart follows the eyes”. Taking great photos of the dresses I offer are a big factor in the decision making for my clients. I believe the better quality of my social media content, the higher my chances of attracting an audience and thus customers. I consider that some dresses can potentially be found elsewhere, but if I am able to make relatable posts and keep the great quality of the photos that are posted, the same dress can become the better dress! My advice would be to put exceptional effort in the content you make; engage with your audience, be constant, and post every day.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth is everything. Good business is a flowchart that begins with me offering the best customer service and entails professionalism and knowledge of my products. If I can provide all of this and more, my outcome will not only stop at customer satisfaction, but lead to customer referral.
