We were lucky to catch up with Alejandra Botello recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alejandra, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
During the lockdown I came across an interview of an older craftsman from Mexico who was crying because he had no one to sell to because there were no tourists going to Mexico. Even though I live in the United States, Mexico is my homeland and holds a special place in my heart. His story motivated me to help local craftsmen from different states in Mexico by buying their crafts in bulk. What started as an adventure to try and help craftsmen from different states in Mexico has now become my passion, and Jandis Colores de Mexio was born.
Being a vendor in Austin has exposed me to wonderful people from all around the world. My mission is to share the beautiful colors and amazing talent of Mexico’s craftsmen all the people who get to know Jandis Colores De Mexico.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My father was a great salesman. As a child, I always heard my father say that his clients were always right and that they deserved to be treated in the best way possible, his words came back to my mind and have given me the strength to start this journey.
I didn’t follow in my fathers footsteps until I lost my job when the pandemic first hit.
I started to look for pop-up events in Austin and since we were in lock down there were no events going on so I decided to set up by myself on the street, only a few people passed by but I did sell some Items, I was not sad that I had made just a few dollars on the contrary I was happy that I had already helped people that needed to feed their families.
I also realized I had inherited my father’s skills as a salesperson and didn’t even know it.
Becoming a vendor was a blessing form me I am proud to sell hand made products but most of all I am very happy to help amazing Artisans from Mexico.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I had lost my job during the pandemic and my last paycheck was for 500.00 dlls I bought hand make product from mexican artisans I was just wanting to help them but the universe gave me a great gift in return my small business. I now help my self with this income and help several artisans from Mexico.

How did you build your audience on social media?
at first I didn’t Know how to use social media so I would ask for help form my sons and their girlfriends to post my products and places where I would be having my pop-ups, little by little I have learned to use it and post my own stories this was one of the greatest challenges form me.
