We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alejandra Belen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alejandra below.
Alejandra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am genuinely fulfilled in my role as an artist and creative. The joy and satisfaction that come from expressing oneself through various artistic mediums are unparalleled. For me, art is not just a career; it’s a calling that resonates with my deepest values and passions. It allows me to communicate in a language that speaks directly to the heart, and there’s a profound happiness that comes with being understood and appreciated in this way.
While I have a background in petrochemical engineering, which might have led me to a more conventional career path, my choice to pursue art has always felt right. I occasionally reflect on what my life might look like had I chosen a more traditional role in engineering. These thoughts, however, are more about curiosity and exploring different aspects of my identity rather than a regret or desire to change my path.
Choosing the life of an artist comes with its set of challenges—financial uncertainty and the constant need for self-motivation can be daunting. Yet, the freedom to create, inspire, and impact lives in meaningful ways is immensely gratifying and continually reaffirms my choice to follow this less conventional path.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up in a Colombian household, Alejandra shared a strong bond with her father. He had a love for literature and an enormous library where he preferred spending most of his time. Witnessing the factual prowess her father gained and shadowing him all through her life instigated Belén to come up with art of her own. Following her Columbian culture and her love for poetic art, Alejandra embarked on a journey of production, crafting masterpieces from a very early age. While generating explicit verses was an innate form of expression and passion for Alejandra, she excelled amazingly in her educational pursuits, obtaining a degree in Petrochemical Engineering. To improve her proficiency in her passion, she also obtained a degree in Fine Arts. Her multidimensional accomplishments in her academics became the inspiration behind the launch of her blog “Power of the Tinta” in 2012, exploring a humanist and visceral approach to poetry.
Alejandra, often known as “Ingeniera de Palabras,” seamlessly blends technical proficiency with artistic creativity, forging a harmonious connection between seemingly unrelated domains. Her dedication to humanist principles shines through in her authentic and soulful artistic creations, designed to resonate with diverse audiences.
In 2023, Belén unveiled “La Vida es a Cada Latido, a collection of poetry accompanied by the EP “Pulso.” The EP’s debut single “La Vida es a Cada Latido”, influenced by classic rock and symphonic nuances, adds a vibrant dimension to her work. By incorporating dance, she transforms her poems into visually compelling narratives. This literary endeavor earned Alejandra the talent stamp from Caligrama Editorial.
Beyond her contributions to poetry, music, and dance, Belén expresses a keen interest in cinema, hinting at an upcoming exploration of innovative and transformative dimensions in her artistic expression.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, through my work, whether it’s poetry, music, or dance, I strive to evoke a visceral response that encourages reflection, dialogue, and a deeper understanding of our shared human experiences. The integration of different artistic forms allows me to explore and express complex themes in ways that are both innovative and relatable.
Additionally, I am committed to using my art as a platform for empowerment and inspiration. By organizing workshops and creating spaces for artistic expression, I aim to nurture others’ creative talents and help them find their own voice. Ultimately, my goal is to foster a community where art is seen as a vital tool for personal and collective transformation.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist lies in the profound connections that my work fosters among individuals from various backgrounds. Art, in its essence, is a universal language that transcends cultural, linguistic, and personal boundaries. Each piece—whether a poem, song, or dance—carries a piece of human experience that resonates deeply with others, offering solace, understanding, and sometimes even joy.
Another incredibly rewarding element is the ability to continually evolve and explore new dimensions within myself and my art. Each project is a journey, not just in creating something for others to experience but in discovering new facets of my own creativity and perspective. This constant evolution keeps my work vibrant and deeply fulfilling.
Lastly, the opportunity to inspire and empower others through my work is profoundly rewarding. Seeing individuals discover their creative potential and express their innermost thoughts and emotions through art is a powerful reminder of why I embarked on this path.
