Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aleisha Wilmot. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aleisha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I am working to build a legacy that stands the test of time. I want to support as many people as I can from my community by providing them with opportunities I was not afforded. I am passionate about my clients and their talent and want to help tell their story on a grander scale and will take great pride in fulfilling that to the best of my ability. I think people will say I was honest, fair and really cared about people and that is truly how I hope to be remembered.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Music Publicist for a couple artists based in Toronto and have been since 2018. I am also a Podcast Producer, starting in 2022.
I went to college for Advertising and got my first industry experience as a promoter for French Montana’s first Canadian show, after selling a ton of tickets I really enjoyed the hustle and knew I wanted to work in Entertainment, but was still sorting through where I would fit. I later applied and was accepted to be apart of The Remix Project, an incredible organization that helps shape young creatives into professionals –I learn from PR professionals and connected with industry executives.
I love what I do as a publicist because I believe in the clients I work with and I’m excited to help them tell their story and extend their reach to connect with people all over. I am most proud of securing one of my clients first ever Radio placement as well as magazine-featured interview. I want people to know that I care about them as well as their art and I will be honest with them in a respectful manner. I am constantly coming up with ideas and researching the market to stay on my toes.
Most recently, as a Podcast Producer I am still helping tell stories –our podcast Dreams Don’t Have Deadlines is some of my most important work as we have educated people aspiring to enter certain fields and provided them with first-hand accounts from successful people such as: Chuck D, Steve Lobel, Saukrates and many more!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’ve always made it a point to show up for people. If I am invited to an event I really try my best to attend and show support. I always think about what went into the planning and how much it would mean to the host to show up for them. When I cannot make it, I make sure I communicate that so people know I value their time. Something as simple as this has really solidified a mutual respect between myself and others. I’m also not afraid to reach out to congratulate others for their wins which I think has gone a long way as the market is so competitive, I think it’s refreshing for others to see that I recognize we can co-exist in the same spaces without there being a secret competition.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love the journey. From the planning phase to execution. It is inevitable there will be roadblocks along the way but being able to see it through and look back on all the hard work you put in to achieve a successful outcome always feels great especially when collaborating with a team.
