Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aleia Burdekin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aleia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time I would’ve started my journey as a baker when I first got the idea back in 2021. I started my business as a hobby in October of last year and it semi took off. I didn’t have much going on other than being a stay at home wife and I knew I always loved to bake, so I thought I’d monetize it. Had I started 4 years sooner, I’d be more knowledgeable on a lot of things pertaining to the business, I’d already had my trial & error season, built a solid clientele and mastered my decorative skills. However, I’m enjoying and appreciating my journey.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Aleia, owner and founder of Aleia’s Cakery. I have always had a passion for baking and I got the bright idea in 2021 that I could start a baking business and serve custom cakes and desserts for special occasions. I was so excited and went and purchased everything I’d need to get started, then I lost the motivation and put it on the back burner. I decided last year that I was going to put myself out there and get serious so I baked a few cakes and gave out samples to get a jump start. I think what sets me apart from others is that I bake completely from scratch and I can offer pretty much any cake you can think of, which my customers appreciate. I’m most proud of the fact that even as a rookie I came in the game with no experience and no prior knowledge of cake decorating, but it came so natural to me. I want people to know that with every order I put my all into making sure my desserts taste as good as they look and my customers are pleased with their experience booking with Aleia’s Cakery – I take pride in excellent customer service!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth has truly been my best source of new clientele. It’s actually such a rewarding feeling knowing that current customers like my product so much they send their family and friends to me as well.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being authentic, having an excellent product and just being kind and genuine really goes a long way.
