We recently connected with Aleesha Worthington and have shared our conversation below.
Aleesha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
My husband Iquan Worthington and I have been a creative couple for 19 years. We thrive off of ideating and building on the life we live but also for the brands we build. During one of our relaxing outings, we talked about how COVID changed the working landscape and the reality of the new “norm”. As an owner of a boutique creative agency called The Artoholiks, my husband had an office space that had become a solo space as his team worked from home. This conversation led to us thinking though how we could launch a co-working space and have it foster the community we belong to. A community that served entrepreneurs, creatives and hustlers who worked by day and flex their creative muscle at night. And just like that… Office Ours Co. was born. Office Ours Co. was our love child, born out of the permission and responsibility to creative a flexible, non-sterile space that was playground for creatives from all walks. Our tagline says it all… “this is not your ordinary flex!”. Our space can host a 25-person workshop one day and be a production space for a fashion shoot the next. We are super proud of what we’re building and are fired up to keep building on this creative economy for the next generation of brand builders.
Aleesha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my career at Rocawear in 00′ and it’s been 24 years that I’ve marketed industry-leading brands and iconic celebrity talent. By touching such a broad suite of brands, it’s allowed me to really build my expertise across the marketing flywheel, further helping me reach target audiences in an intentional way. I’m proud that to this day, I’m always lasered in on meeting the consumer where they are. This focus also helps to power Office Ours Co. from a unique space that truly fosters an environment where creative forces who touch brands of all shapes and sizes feel empowered to work on them, all while being great from a seat / office / meeting room in our studio.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
In my career I’ve always been immersed and in love with the brands and talent I’ve worked with. My intrapreneur spirit is something I’m proud of… it’s my secret sauce. But with anything you love and that’s special, you have to protect it and know how to use it. I’ve had to unlearn pushing myself to the point that I’m doing myself a disservice. I honor my gifts and know that I will always give 200% but I now also honor that I owe it to me to rest, reset and then go, I also owe it to myself to release the unnecessary pressure I place on myself to get it “all” right. I’m proud of my “perfection” but I also honor and respect my peace.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My partner-in-crime, bestie and co-founder is non other than Iquan Worthington, my husband! We met in 05′ on the campus of Rutgers University and have been inseparable ever since, The fun fact is when we met, we weren’t connecting based on being interested personally rather professionally. But we couldn’t deny how attracted we were to each other’s brilliance and of course looks. Who would have thought 19 years later… we’d be here. His is my partner is business but more importantly partner in life.
