Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aleecia Voglezon . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Aleecia, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Honestly, there are many memories I can see as a defining moment in my career but one moment in particular would be my first “official” launch during the height of the pandemic. August/September of 2019 I started to talk about the benefits of elderberry and raspberry leaf tea. Little did I know the world that we once knew would be shut down in the matter of months. All of the things I swore I couldn’t get done prior to the pandemic (creating a website, bottling up my syrups, etc.) I was able to do in a month! I created my own websites, labels, bottles up syrups, created teas, and sold out of all of my products in 3 days! In the height of the pandemic. At that moment I knew that people not only saw me but believed in me. Trusted my judgement and the knowledge I was providing. I’m so grateful for that moment.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Aleecia and I am the creator of Brown Sugar Co. a Womb Wellness and Holistic Healing company catered to educating and advocating for Black women and Women of Color. I grew up in a Caribbean household, Guyanese to be exact. In my home using herbal medicine was apart of my daily routine, but once I grew up I started to steer away from my family traditions. That was until I gave birth to son. Once I gave birth I felt even more connected to my womb…to my body. I became obsessed with finding medical alternatives for my son and eye. In the midst of my search I found out about Vaginal Steaming and all of its benefits for the body. I decided to become certified and introduce it to my community. From there I began taking herbal courses and elevating my knowledge.
One thing I would want my potential clients and followers to know about me and my brand is that I am here to not only educate but to make caring for your body and womb a fun and sexy thing to do. Everything doesn’t have to be so “invasive” if you know what I mean.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Lessons that I had to unlearn and still I learn is that I can not only move when I’m motivated. For many years I did things based off emotion. I worked my business based off emotion and that is not the way to become successful! Once I learned the harm that I was putting myself and my business through I slowly but surely switched my mindset. When I’m not feeling motivated I will think of my “why”, and if that doesn’t work then I say “I am showing up for myself today by doing (insert task here)”. That’s been really pushing me this year and getting me through any rut that I’ve experienced.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
This is such a great question! What helped build my reputation was knowledge and sharing. That’s it! I would learn something new and just share it with my audience. A lot of people like to hoard information and keep it for themselves…or they charge for every single thing. To me that doesn’t build authenticity. It takes nothing for to share some fun information about womb health and menstrual care. That tells my audience I am knowledgeable and I don’t just see them as dollar signs. So when I do bring products to them they know that it was created by someone who’s becoming a master at their craft
