We were lucky to catch up with Alecia Peters recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alecia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a young single mother of two, I got caught up in the hustle & bustle, living paycheck to paycheck. I always knew I wanted to own a home, but I just didn’t know how to approach homeownership. I knew I wanted different, but I also didn’t know how to make the necessary changes. Unfortunately, financial literacy and investing weren’t at the forefront of the conversations amongst family & friends in my community. In addition to migrating from a foreign country to America and being a part of the first generation to seek higher education in the United States, my family was also learning about the American system of home ownership. I had witnessed my mom purchasing a property but had no visibility into how it was done. Now I have learned how and have been able to achieve homeownership for myself as well as being able to help other people in my community to do the same.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Being in the field during COVID and witnessing the drastic changes within the market gave me an advantage as a new realtor. At the time, not many realtors would show properties but with a prayer, while taking the proper precautions and my faith on high, I did. I’m so glad I did because I began to master my craft with the lessons I learned during that time. I became an expert in the real estate industry. With my experience, I vowed to make a change in my community. My real estate name is Real Estate Her which represents a few versions of a phenomenal woman (herself, mom, sister, wife, daughter) and also goes beyond the woman in our community. The Real Estate Her movement aims to help build generational wealth for women through real estate.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I began to have an interest in real estate, I was in the middle of a divorce and in school finishing up my degree at Florida Atlantic University, all while struggling to be the best mother to my two young kids & balancing a full-time job. That was a rough patch of my life. Every day I had to show up with a smile even though I was falling apart internally. My kids were depending on me. With all my responsibilities, I had to be very disciplined with time management and prioritizing the important things in life. I spent many sleepless nights studying to become a realtor. At the time my vision of myself and real estate was very personal. I needed an additional form of income to not only survive but to also make the changes necessary to be a dependent adult and someday change my legacy. With all that I have been through; I am the definition of resilience!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that everyone has the same heart as I did. I thought the people who witnessed me at my lowest and saw the work I put in to change my narrative were for me. I learned that not everyone wants to see you win. Though we all have the same 24 hours in a day, not everyone is willing to put in the work that I did. I was surprised to find that the things that would have inspired me created envy and jealousy in others. It was even more surprising that it was coming from those closest to me. Envy had people secretly chasing my dreams instead of their own. In the end, my circle got smaller but deeper in quality. This growth in me also helped filter out the people who couldn’t come to the next level with me.
