We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alecia Daniel-Hall a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alecia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I were launching my law firm, Genesis Law PA over again, the first thing I would do differently is ignore the self doubt and scream to the world that I have opened the doors of my law firm and i’m ready to bring my services to the world. My business began to flourish once I became confident about telling people who I am, and what I do. The second thing I would do is embrace social media immediately. I was initially hesitant to record and post videos. One of my mentors said “you’re overthinking it.” And she was right. I slowly started creating videos about estate planning and probate based on questions I’ve been asked during new client consultations and my level of comfort increased with each post. Today, I have over 30k followers on Instagram and receive a steady stream of quality leads as a result of my posts. And it doesn’t cost a penny to post a reel, so this is effectively, free marketing.
Alecia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an estate planning and probate attorney located in the State of Florida. I assist families who have either lost a loved one that lived in the state of Florida, or owned property in the state of Florida, at the time of their death, with the probate process. My firm is completely virtual and I handle probate cases throughout the entire state of Florida. In addition to Florida, I am also licensed to practice law in the states of New York and New Jersey and provide estate planning services to residents of all three states.
I have practiced law for 17 years and what I enjoy most is the ability to educate the African American community about estate planning and legacy building. I am now in a position to provide a resource that has been unattainable to members of my community for generations.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency!! Most of my leads find me through either social media or a google search. About 80% have viewed several of my videos. In this day and age, potential clients will use the internet to learn more about a prospective professional, so having a robust online presence is vital as it provides credibility. But the only way to build that online footprint is by posting regularly and consistently. The posts should provide knowledge and information to your potential clients, not merely a sales pitch.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Google advertising combined with regular YouTube videos has become one of, if not my best source of lead generation. What i’ve learned is having the leads is not enough. Some leads need to be nurtured. As a result, you have to have a follow-up process to leverage those leads and convert them into paying clients.
