We recently connected with Alece Coleman and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alece thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents were teens when I was born. As a parent myself I am seriously amazed at how they did parenthood. My mom became a single mom early on in my life and one thing she instilled in me early on was CONFIDENCE. There wasn’t an idea, job or belief system that she didn’t believe I was capable of participating in and excelling at it. I am certain this is why I’ve been successful in many businesses but particularly my herbalism business. I am unafraid of risks and take them often with assurance that I can thrive anywhere and I do.

Alece, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! I’m Alece Coleman. I am a folk herbalist, licensed psychotherapist multi facet healer Wife and mom of 3.
I am a Fordham University trained psychotherapist specializing in maternal mental health and somatic healing. I gained my entry into herbalism after becoming a parent and realizing so many mental health and behavioral health issues stemmed from our consumption of inadequate food, environmental stressors and repressed emotions.
My herbalism practice is ancestral with many women in my family (we are from the deep American South) practicing herbalism and mystical healing and sharing it as “medicine” for the home.
I began to investigate holistic healing with herbs during my first pregnancy, began creating my own beauty and wellness items and with the encouragement of my husband began to offer them to my community online and in person.
I help people integrate wellness into their lives in an EASY and accesible way. No complicated formulations or 12 step routines, but wellness recipes, products and lifestyle guidance to make wellness ordinary and something most people can implement.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Wellness is not all or nothing. As I began healing I wanted to learn all the modalities, “fix” all the things. I live a 70/30 lifestyle. I’m going to enjoy my nachos and ice cream once in a while.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think completing shadow work is essential for entrepreneurs especially people who work with other peoples energies and who create products that support soul wellness. If we are unable to confront and embrace the parts of ourselves that make us uncomfortable we cannot truly show up and serve with resentment or greed.
