Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alec Romero-Hoffman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alec, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
As I reflect on this question, am I happy as a business owner? I have to answer wholeheartedly, no I’m not happy solely being a business owner. Throughout this business owner adventure, I realized I missed having the daily routine of work-life comradery and the feeling of physical accomplishment at the end of the day. I found myself shifting my business into a more creative aspect of my life’s photographic journey and that solely taking portraits for people wasn’t my true passion. I have come to the realization that returning to a workplace I called once called home for 10 years would be the best decision at this point and time in my life. Although making the decision to return to work I plan to keep my business ventures nourished by adhering to a more artistic aspect outlook than a survival outlook, honestly, the whole reason I started my own business was to discover who I am as a photographer, a creative, an artist and how exactly I want to present my artistic stamp on to this world.
Alec, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a local photographer and mixed media artist specializing in one-of-a-kind art pieces featuring AbR Photography, and often including hand-cut 3D aspects to create a cinematic life-like quality to each image. This craft came to me after experimenting with my photography and mod podge during covid, these last two years have allowed me to hone in on my craft and provide sleek unique works of art. My pieces are unlike anything I have really seen before, so many steps go into each image, it was super important to stand out with something more unique than a picture on the wall, I want to immerse the viewer into each image I create.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As an artist, I have discovered the most rewarding aspect of my journey is knowing that my heart and soul hang in the homes of not only loved ones but with people who resonated enough with my work to want to take it home.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Im officially at my pivoting point, life has thrown me a curve ball that left me heartbreakingly blindsided, I struggled with things for a while before fully immersing myself in my craft. Even though life takes us where we are destined it may not be what we necessarily plan for, I’m grateful and proud of myself for leaving my former job on good terms it has provided me with a welcomed return to the industry I called home.
