We were lucky to catch up with Alec Pezzano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alec, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Honestly, I feel like I’ve always known — like it’s just been in my bones. Ever since I was very young, I was that kid — the class artist, the one always sketching, writing, or messing around on some sort of musical instrument. Creative projects were what I gravitated toward naturally, and I loved getting lost in them.
By the time I hit high school, that feeling only grew stronger. While I struggled to stay focused in subjects like math and geography, I completely thrived in my advanced placement art, creative writing, and music classes. I couldn’t wait to dive into projects in those subjects — they felt less like assignments and more like opportunities to do something meaningful.
I remember realizing pretty early in my sophomore year of high school that pursuing art as a career wasn’t just something I wanted to do — it felt non-negotiable. I couldn’t imagine a life where I wasn’t creating in some way. Whether it was painting, filmmaking, writing, or performing music, I knew that’s where I felt the most fulfilled.
It sounds cheesy, but I really do feel like I found my purpose early on — the creative spark was too powerful to ignore. It wasn’t about if I’d pursue a creative path, it was just a matter of figuring out how.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been drawn to creative expression — whether that’s through visual art, storytelling, or music — and I’ve been fortunate to turn that passion into a career that spans multiple disciplines.
By day, I work as a Creative Director for a marketing agency where I produce and lead a team that creates everything from graphics and advertising materials to billboards, radio ads, and nationally broadcasted commercials. It’s fast-paced, always evolving, and incredibly rewarding to help brands connect with their audience in meaningful ways.
Outside of that, I also work as a freelance graphic artist, primarily creating various types of artwork for musicians, bands, and record labels. That side of my work feels special because it combines two things I really love — music and visual art — and I get to collaborate with artists to help visually shape their sound and identity.
I’m also one half of a creative production agency that specializes in visual storytelling through photography and videography. Our team has worked with everything from sports organizations and national brands to music videos and short films. Some of our films have even won awards on the film festival circuit and been featured on cable and streaming platforms worldwide, which has been an incredible experience. Our most recent project has been producing a feature length film. We are currently 60% through production.
On top of all that, I’m also a touring musician. I play in two different bands; one of which has been together for nearly 20 years. In that time we’ve recorded multiple albums, distributed our music and merchandise globally, and toured extensively. Balancing all these creative pursuits can feel chaotic at times, but I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way — each one feeds into the other in a way that keeps me constantly inspired.
If there’s one thing I’d want people to know about me and my work, it’s that I’m deeply passionate about storytelling in all its forms — whether that’s through art and design, film, or music. I believe creative work is at its best when it feels genuine, human, and emotionally resonant, and that’s what I strive for in everything I create.
I thrive on blending many forms of art to tell stories that stick with people. Whether I’m designing for a band, producing a commercial, or writing new music, it’s always about finding that emotional core that makes people connect. That’s what drives me, and it’s what I’m most proud of.
