Alec, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Flan Flambé is a family owned bakery that specializes in a Spanish dessert called flan. This sweet dessert symbolizes the creativity and uniqueness of Flan Flambe. After graduating San Diego State University and working closely with my partner in business management we researched and developed our business surrounding flan. I am employed as a full time sales advisor and studied psychology while earning my bachelors degree in 2022. Baking has always been mine and my partners favorite hobby together and flan was is our specialty. However, baking flan took countless attempts to recreate so my grandma gave me her original recipe. This flan is by far the most perfect and delicious flan you’ll ever try at any restaurant around the world. This masterpiece has been supported by the city of San Diego, our community, along with friends and family. The positive feedback and stories we receive from our clients is truly inspiring and important to us. We love baking each and every flan to ensure greatness behind every bite!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the pandemic in 2020 a lot of jobs and business were closing so I saw that as an opportunity to invest. Rather than investing into big companies I decided to research and develop a brand that would generate income besides a full time job. When my full time job reduced hours for the month I did not want to wait on the company to help me. I knew I had to think fast and find another income. Although I have both a full time job and this business I manage my time to accomplish everything.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner is also my fiancé of 4 years. She graduated with a business degree in entrepreneurship and saw my talent behind baking these Spanish desserts. We both lived in San Diego and we quickly understood our client population and location to sell flan. When I would bake flan for family events, and company parties the feedback of everyone would always be convincing me to sell them one. This was the first sign of a unique product.
