Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aleasha Rennie . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aleasha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
My whole life I have absolutely been devoured by art. Not just through nail art designs but throughout the years my art has shown through many different types, I use to make cakes which began as a hobby then I got more serious & started creating bespoke wedding cakes. Throughout lockdown when I could not work I used my imagination then I started making press on nails & resin pallets this was super therapeutic sitting in my cabin & I could create what ever pieces I wanted & no matter what I made every item sold. It’s such a great feeling knowing people love the art that I do you get such a buzz from it. When I did nails & cakes I absolutely loved both but my heart was with nails for sure & I wanted to fully focus on that as my career path. Now with 13 years experience, a cabin in my back garden & releasing my own brand of gel polish I have a great clientelle. I’ve won 2 awards with the British hair and beauty awards this was a huge highlight of my career. It’s a huge honour when you are recognised for your passion for nail art. I always knew from a young age I would want to use my skill of art as my career.

Aleasha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
With a huge passion for art, nails and nail products it was always a dream of mine to build my own brand.
With lockdown beginning and allowing me to have time to do it, this is when paint me pretty was born. Being apart of the nail community, an award winning nail technician, an ambassador for brands & 13 years experience under my belt I knew I had the knowledge to create my dream and Once I started I couldn’t stop.
I loved experimenting with nail products, glitters & colour in my nail art designs but I often found I had to mix brands or even mix my own colours to create the design in my head. Now I can create my own bespoke colours & share it with the nail community & my clients. I seen a gap in the market for the products I was ideally looking for & with the help of the nail community we are proud to work with nail techs all over the world to achieve the latest top trending products!
One of the best parts of creating PMP is seeing my clients get so excited about the shades. It makes their whole appointment experience so much more fun. We get the same feedback from our customers & it’s such an amazing feeling knowing that paint me pretty is being recognised as what it stands for! Making people feel pretty! not to mention choosing the names of the gel polishes which are Scottish related something very unique to my brand. Some of the Scottish slang & heritage is super funny & people can learn a little Scottish along the way. My friends and family play a huge part on choosing the names & it’s incredibly fun. My last collection I had a colour named after my daughter Frankie and if you haven’t seen this colour yet it’s a reflective pink glitter which I have never seen on the internet before it’s now became our best seller!
Our goal is to ensure every person walking out of the salon feels pretty! Since starting paint me pretty one of the main focuses on the brand is that the quality is outstanding. Our colours are so pigmented that some require just one coat! We are so proud of our polishes and if you haven’t tried them out yet I guarantee you will love them too.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a time where I was stuck in a dead end job as a carer for 6 long years it was a great job but the hours were long and the work was hard I knew it wasn’t the path for me & I so desperately wanted to take the plunge and go for it with nails. Something in me clicked & I walked into a salon asked to rent a nail station & the next day handed in my notice. If I hadn’t made this move I wouldn’t be where I am today so I always tell people if you have a dream or are thinking about leaving that job that’s making you unhappy change your path! You never know where it might lead.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Stay patient and trust your journey be prepared to work hard for it. Rome wasn’t built in a day and remember practice makes perfect, don’t ever compare to someone who has years more experience concentrate on the now & your own personal skills what do you offer that others may not? Supporting someone else’s success should never dampen yours focus on how your success can foster potential collaboration instead. Never give up if you believe you can you will succeed.
