We were lucky to catch up with Aleah Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aleah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents instilled hard work and faith in me. Sounds cliche, I know I know lol. If you can be whatever you want to be was a person, it would be my dad . He was a chef, an artist, a singer, an engineer, a techie and so much more, he was a great example of what I aspire to be. Both of my parents were and still are. Owning a business takes so much faith and hard work, so I’m truly most grateful for that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well I’m Aleah, an advanced esthetician since 2019, in the Akron area and I specialize in corrective skincare and full body sugaring, which is a natural form of waxing. In short, I clear up a lot of acne, get rid of a lot of dark spots and i rip out a lot of hair! I’m also a sugaring educator for Sweet and True Sugaring and I just graduated nursing school! So, my first job as an esthetician was actually working for myself. Before going to school for esthetics, I was what I like to call a “kitchen chemist”. I became an esthetician so that I could learn more about skin and use that knowledge to help me create skin care. I was so focused on my goal that it never never actually dawned on me that this might be something I’d enjoy. 2 weeks after taking my first client, salons had to shut down due to Covid. I then focused on building up my business on Instagram, 6 years later here we are!
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Of course I would! If I could go back, I would’ve chose to be an aesthetician so much sooner! I procrastinated quite a bit along the way, so if I would change anything, that’s what it would be!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Definitely taking my time to learn my craft. I chose which areas I wanted to specialize in and I really worked hard to perfect those areas. I’m always seeking education about anything that I do, still to this day. You can never have enough education. It wasn’t all me though…. My clients, my clients, my clients! I absolutely love them, They are so supportive and they’re always referring me to their family and friends.
