We were lucky to catch up with Ale Lopez Irala recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ale, thanks for joining us today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?

One of the most memorable moments in my career was when I rescued a tiny cat named Tom. Although I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of animals over the years, Tom’s story stands out in my heart. I was at a veterinary clinic when I was told that a feral cat was about to be returned to the streets. Something in his eyes touched my heart, and I decided to give him a chance. I took him home, and that was just the beginning of our story. Tom not only adapted to life indoors, but he also accompanied me on an incredible journey: we crossed continents together, traveling by car and plane until we reached our new home. Today, Tom is a star on my social media and has become a symbol of why rescued cats deserve a second chance. His story reminds me that, with patience and love, animals can change our lives in ways we never imagined.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

For those who may not know me, my name is Alejandra López Irala, and I am a Certified Cat Behavior Consultant (CCBC) with over 10 years of experience working with domestic cats. My journey into the world of feline behavior began at a young age, growing up with a cat in my home, and that early bond sparked a lifelong passion for understanding these incredible animals. Over the years, I have worked with animal rescue organizations, private cat owners, and veterinarians both in Argentina and the U.S., always with the goal of improving the lives of cats and their human companions.

I specialize in offering feline behavior consultations and educational services that help humans better understand their cats’ needs and behavior. My services include personalized consultations for solving behavioral problems such as litter box issues, aggression between cats, and the introduction of new pets into the home. I also create environmental enrichment plans and offer guidance on cooperative care, ensuring that the relationship between cats and their humans is as stress-free and fulfilling as possible. No matter the issue, I always aim to provide a solution that works for both the cat and the human, ensuring long-term success and harmony in the home.

What sets me apart is my deep understanding of feline behavior combined with a compassionate, client-centered approach. Whether it’s through my consulting services or the workshops and educational courses I offer, I aim to foster a stronger connection between cats and their humans. I also co-created the first Spanish-language feline festival, where we provide education and resources to cat lovers.

If there’s one thing I want potential clients and followers to know about me and my work, it’s that I am deeply committed to the well-being of cats. I believe that with the right understanding, patience, and care, anyone can build a lasting, positive relationship with their feline companions. My brand, Rasca y Pica, embodies this philosophy, and I strive to help humans not only solve problems but also enrich their cats’ lives in meaningful ways.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

Absolutely. Working with cats has not only been my passion but also a deeply fulfilling journey. If I could go back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Understanding feline behavior and helping humans build stronger bonds with their cats has been incredibly rewarding, and I feel that every step of my path has been purposeful. From learning about animal behavior to becoming a certified consultant and working alongside veterinarians and other colleagues, every experience has strengthened my desire to continue in this field.

While there have been challenges, especially when dealing with difficult behavioral cases, the impact I’ve been able to make—both in the lives of cats and their humans—has far outweighed any obstacles. I feel that helping people understand and care for their feline companions is my true calling, and if I could go back, I would choose this path over and over again.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Building my reputation within the feline behavior field has been a combination of several factors, but the most important has been my dedication to always providing a solution. When clients come to me with a problem, whether it’s aggression, litter box issues, or trouble introducing new cats, I make it my priority to offer clear, effective guidance that improves both the cat’s life and the human’s experience. My clients know they can rely on me not only for expert advice but also for empathy and understanding, which has helped build trust over time.

Another key factor has been education and continuous learning. I’ve invested in my own growth by attending workshops, obtaining certifications like Fear Free Trainer, Bach Flower Theraphist,for example and staying connected with the global community of feline behavior specialists. This has allowed me to bring the latest techniques and knowledge to my clients, which sets me apart as someone who’s committed to delivering the best care possible.

Additionally, my approach of blending behavior consulting with practical solutions for everyday challenges—such as environmental enrichment or cooperative care—has helped me establish a unique niche. Sharing real stories of success through my social media and my involvement in events for Spanish speaking have also been instrumental in building my reputation. Consistency, transparency, and genuine passion for what I do have helped me become a trusted name in my market.
