We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aldrich Camero a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Aldrich, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My latest EP- ‘Paranoia, California’ is the most impactful project of my music career so far. I’ve gone through so many changes as an artist these past few years and this body of work is a step in the direction that I want to go. It encompasses all of the emotions from my early 20s and takes me back to my roots.

Aldrich, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Aldrich and I started the band Angstentine. We’re from North County, San Diego. Our group blends elements from shoegaze, punk, surf, emo, and grunge. Those are the main influences, but I grew up listening to everything so I feel like it all plays a part in writing.
As far as what I’m proud of – I’d say it’s just how far I’ve come and how hungry I still am to create. I’ve been in this industry for most of my life and I have no plans of slowing down any time soon. This past year I’ve met so many creative individuals and it all feels so fresh. Even as I write this right now, I stayed up all night writing and recording new material. It’s currently 6AM. I should rest but music keeps me awake.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Writing has always been cathartic for me. A recording session brought me to tears once. But it’s not always that serious. I’ll always experiment with different sounds because it makes music fun. At the core, it’s Angstentine, regardless of the genre or feeling. It all depends on what I want at the time. That release of energy is what drives me. I don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t express that.
If I had to pin a specific goal it would be to travel the world for music. I’ve met individuals who resonate with the songs and connect with me sonically – that’s the greatest gift. I want the opportunity to spread that with as many people as I can. It’s not about being “famous” or “popular”. I could care less about the numbers, but if that connection can be made with music, I want people to get the chance to make that connection. It may feel like the industry is oversaturated at times, but I believe that whoever needs to hear us will discover us. And if it’s not for them, we just keep moving along, no pressure. At the end of the day, it’s all subjective. I don’t care to be liked by everyone.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Go to local shows. Buy merch directly from the artists. Visit those mom and pop shops around town. It’s all about supporting on the ground level. As long as we build a solid community, we’ll be ok.
