Albertus, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Got fired from my part time job in 2012 and decided to be a full time Artist from that day since.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, I’ve been selling art since I was a kid in grade school. Won many art competitions and what not and then went to college to be an engineer only later to switch my major to art… best decision ever. Joined the Marine Corp reserves while In college and served for almost 10 years before leaving the reserves in 1998. Started a few businesses ( motorcycle shops, general contracting, and a fabrication business) and in 2006 left all
That behind to be more involved in Art. Got a side gig that paid the bills for the most part but got fired and became a full time artist ever since. I was raise a catholic and I’ve always been fascinated by religion. My parents were very open minded and allowed me to look into many other religions as a child. I read profusely and ingested books about philosophy and anthropology just to name a few… I listened to the dissertations of Joseph Campbell and the writings of all types of scientists and theologians… I’ve felt a connection exists and my work mostly symbolizes my findings and the profound question of existence..
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Unlearn social and societal noise and look inward for almost all the answers to every question you’ll ever need.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Over coming the struggle.
