Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alberto Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alberto, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Starting out in voice acting is the easiest thing in the world, all you need is a microphone and a vision, learning how to do it well is another story. Learning the craft through a lot of trial and error along with some excellent teachers formally and informally was invaluable to my craft and where it is today.
As I go along my journey I do wish I had put myself out there more to network with the amazing peers I have sooner.
Definitely learning how to become more confident and not being afraid to listen to my own voice. As I gain more experience these skills become more and more priceless and it is something I believe all budding voice actors should learn how to do as soon as they can.
Work life balance is one thing I feel has been an unfortunate side effect both before and after I began to gain popularity and more work, it kept me from learning things I would have learned far sooner far later, however I do not regret a thing!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Certainly! My name is Alberto J Garcia, I am a voice actor from Texas and have been doing so since 2021. I first broke into the life of a voice actor as I was unemployed and in a bit of a rut both mentally and professionally. I decided to begin that journey by auditioning for some small projects here and there until I got my first role around the end of 2021. I do a variety of work from commercial to character to narration and even video games! Anything that needs a creative and varied voice I am there to help!
I think I separate myself from the crowd with two very important things, transparency and understanding. Being able to mix those two things has pushed me farther in this business than most who have started out before and after me.
I am mostly known for my character work such as being in many Newgrounds and Youtube animations. I am identified by my wide range of both old and young, deep and high, serious and comedic voices.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Without a doubt the countless books and seminars out there for FREE about learning the business and how to conduct yourself in the world of voice acting. Not having those at the start was very dampening to the start of my creative journey however thanks to them I am able to fully thrive and expand my knowledge of the world of voice work.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I simply began to post videos on TikTok and Youtube and from there cultivated an audience of loyal fans who loved my work. My biggest point of advice for anyone wanting to do what I do is consistency and quality. Keep posting, keep going, but also remember to never burn yourself out chasing fame. Our journey may have the same destination but it doesn’t mean we have to reach it at the same time.
