We were lucky to catch up with Albert Ghitis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Albert, thanks for joining us today. Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?
Covid changed our model by making us see the benefit of outdoor classes. At first we moved our classes outdoors out of necessity, but we slowly leaned that they had appeal even in a post-covid world. People like being outside and they love that we can give them some signature Miami views, from the Miami River to the Atlantic Ocean
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Fitness used to be about looking good or getting a six pack. Now the pandemic and other trends have shown that it has a lot more to do with community and mental health. With so many stressors these days, we provide an outlet for people to just disconnect and forget about their every day problems. Science has also shown that exercise is one of, if not THE best way to deal with depression and other mental health issues. So we are providing people with what could be potential life-saving services.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I touched on this previously but during the pandemic we had to totally change our business model. First we started delivering our spin bikes door to door and created digital content. Then we moved our classes outdoors and we’ve been doing them outdoors (in addition to our indoor studios) ever since.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
this is kind of piggy backing on the first question, but we almost closed during Covid. We couldn’t hold classes at all and owed a fortune in back rent. Digital and outdoor classes saved the business.
