We recently connected with Alba Chang and have shared our conversation below.

Alba, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Chang’s Touch started after I went on medical leave from my job as a nurse two years into the pandemic; I was overworked and burned out and I had to leave for my mental health. It was during this time that I discovered that conventionally made sexual products may cause harm to intimate tissue, have hormone disruptors or were made with low-grade materials and lastly there was not a one-stop shop for the vegan sex products I found. I also realized that there was such a lack of education when it comes to sexuality. This was very apparent as years in the emergency room as a nurse; I was teaching patients about safe sex practices, like putting on a condom properly, washing between patients or even urinating after sex, among other examples. The topic of sexuality is still such a taboo that many people do not even know about their own bodies or even various structures.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Yes, of course (laughs). Well, I have been a nurse for twelve years with experience in ER/trauma, cath lab, interventional radiology and neuro. Never in a million years I thought I would ever be an entrepreneur much less be in the sex industry. Chang’s Touch is the first all vegan online sex boutique in the US, all the products that we sell are vegan and cruelty-free sex products and even our shipping materials are biodegradable and eco-friendly. What sets us apart is that as a vegan company, we are not an apparel or food company, we are in a “taboo” industry that can be unregulated, ignorant or is not thought of as part of health or a basic need.

What I want our future clients and followers to know is that Chang’s Touch is about education; educating on the dangers of commercially made sex products that may cause harm to intimate tissue, disrupt hormones, harmful chemicals and the lack of quality in sex toys. We are very discerning in what we sell in our store, it takes weeks of research before adding a new item to our inventory.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Yes, I originally had a business partner who I thought would bring great potential to the business; but I quickly realized that this person was irresponsible and did not have the same passion for the business as I did. They were often late to meetings, they did not complete assigned tasks that at the end of the day, I ended up doing everything on my own. This made me realize that I did not need them, so I said bye.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?

My team is small at the moment, but the most important is to have respect for team members and make it very clear what the expectations are. Honesty and verbal communication have been key for me; one does not need to be rude to be heard but sometimes there are times that you do have to be strict, especially for me, when it comes to punctuality.
