We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alandria Lloyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alandria, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
This business was birthed from total experience. I started my entrepreneurial journey a little over 13 years ago, and it has been a journey indeed. When I first began, I was so eager and excited to be my. own boss and call the shots. And that was cool, until I looked up one day and realized that I traded my 9-5 to work 5am until after 7pm. I also traded my one job title in corporate only to become Tech Support, Customer Service, the Social Media Manager, the Creative, and everything in between. Soon the excitement waned and exhaustion set in. I experienced burnout in my business (the first time) back in 2021. It was so bad that I had headaches everyday, and found myself in bed for 30 days straight. But it didn’t stop there, I ended up having two more rounds of burnout and I decided that the third time was the last time. After the third go round, I found myself on blood pressure pills and intentionally creating spaces to relieve stress. It was during that season that I decided to get more serious about my physical and mental wellbeing, but I also had to be intentional about creating a team and automating processes to ensure that my business didn’t kill me. After I took 6 months to recover, I became committed to helping other solopreneurs avoid what I’d learned the hard way.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been a business consultant for over 7 years and have helped countless clients scale up and increase their revenue. I have a passion for taking clients from point A to the next level in their businesses. I love watching clients light up after receiving an “aha moment” during one of our sessions. Those moments make me the proudest and they also give me the fuel to keep pressing even during the tough moments. For my solopreneur clients, I provide consultations as well as VIP to help clients skyrocket their brands in record time. My clients typically are wearing all of the hats in their businesses, but once we are done working together, they have a team, systems, and automations in place to help them profit in peace without falling in pieces.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele has been hosting my own events as well as in person networking events. Social media is a great platform, and I’ve connected with many amazing clients, however, meeting people in person and taking time to build rapport offline has been a game changer for me.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The hardest lesson I had to unlearn was the fact that I am not Superwoman. I was a teen mom, who was on every governmental assistance program possible. I put myself through college and started my business from scratch, all while being there for every extracurricular activity that my son participated in. I was the Queen of multitasking, and though it helped me as a single mom, it became disastrous as an entrepreneur. The attempts to run multiple businesses at once without a team is what led to my burnout. Now that I know better, I make a point to do better.
