We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alana Smith . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alana below.
Alana , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
My first introduction in to the Entertainment Industry, was when I knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally. My main passions are both dance and music. I decided to pursue professional dance, through the support of my family. I was involved in competition dance for 7 years and throughout those years I progressed, learning how to break out of my shell. After my last year of middle school, I wanted to learn a different level of dance. I attended my first dance intensive workshop in North Carolina, and I loved it. At the end I felt excited, challenged, and pushed. These are two different worlds where the responsibility of the dancer is to create a schedule to train, find local and out of state areas to showcase my talent. Attending multiple workshops learning to expand my creativity I began to in music. I began to songwrite and found an amazing organization for girls in music. Girls Make Beats an organization teaching young girls how to DJ, produce and create music. In those distinct moments, I was determined that both dance and music were going to be my professional paths.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who may not know, my name is Alana Smith. Artistry has always been a part of me, mainly in music and dance. I’m a Sophomore at Pace University in New York, majoring in Arts & Entertainment Management. First semester of freshman year I had the opportunity to study abroad in London, while also taking the advantage of traveling to Spain, Scotland, and Italy. I first got in to the entertainment industry by training, attending workshops or conventions, and creating new connections. Creative works I provide is choreography, songwriting, Dj’ing, and music production. All that I have accomplished and overcome so far, I am most proud of. One thing I want readers to know about me, is that I am a determined individual, still improving and finding myself, and that I will forever be thankful for all blessings and experiences.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is being able to showcase my capabilities, trying new forms of art. Artists or creatives all have different perspectives of the world and emotions, and they express that through their craft. We are storytellers and inspired by the artistic community. Our goal at the end of day is to move our audience, making sure that we are being seen and heard.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Just making it and being able to provide for my family is the goal, driving my creative journey. I want to have the pleasure of waking up everyday doing what makes me happy. Living each day doing something that I genuinely enjoy and love doing is the ultimate goal. Expressing my self through creating movement, instrumentals, and writing is how I let everything go. I continue to strive and reach the next level in my career, because everyday I claim success.
