We recently connected with Alan Torres and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alan, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?

there was this one time back in Portland Oregon I was drumming for a fantastic band called Welcome Home Waker. We were approached to play a show for the da folks at the Portland Mental Psychiatric Hospital on New Year’s. And let me tell you, it was a night to remember. The sheer joy, the pure elation on their faces it was like a light in the darkness, bringing a spark of happiness to those who had lost touch with it. In that moment, it was just music doing what it does best forging connections, bridging gaps, and bringing people together through the universal language of song and dance. It was a reminder of the power of music to touch lives, to uplift spirits, and to create moments of pure, unadulterated joy. And that, my friend, is what it’s all about the magic of music in its most raw, authentic form.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I find myself immersed in the world of music, constantly crafting unique experiences that intertwine the essence of the past, present, and future. As a fervent DJ, I seamlessly merge diverse genres, from South American cumbia to rock en español also rock en inglés (English ) I like celebrating its myriad styles on vibrant dance nights. From the sultry rhythms of Italian melodies to the pulsating beats of house music and Italo disco that awaken the inner robot in us all, my sets are a tapestry of sonic adventures.

Yet, amidst the electrifying energy of the dance floor, I always find solace in the soulful sounds of Stax records and Motown, paying homage to the roots that anchor my musical journey. And when the lights dim and the crowd disperses, I retreat into the embrace of old-world wines, savoring the melancholic ballads of Hank Williams and George Jones, a timeless soundtrack to moments of introspection and reflection.

In this symphony of sounds and experiences, I strive to evoke emotions, create connections, and transport my audience on a melodic odyssey that transcends time and space. So, whether you’re a seasoned music aficionado or a casual listener, join me as we embark on a harmonious voyage through the rich tapestry of musical expressions that define who we are and where we come from.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Well, you know, music and art, they’ve always been my true north. They’ve been my guides through this crazy, chaotic world. It’s like a language that speaks to the soul, you know? I mean, when I was knee-high to a grasshopper, while my buddies were bopping along to the latest pop tunes, I was lost in the world of rock ‘n’ roll. I was channeling the spirit of Jerry Lee Lewis, trying to shake it up like Chuck Berry. That was the spark that ignited this unquenchable thirst for music and art, leading me on this never-ending quest to discover new sounds, new voices, new visions. It’s a journey that’s as much about connecting with others as it is about connecting with myself. So yeah, you could say that my love affair with music and art, it’s been the foundation of everything I am today.
