Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alan Nathanson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Alan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My new EP Winds of Fate is Co-Produced with Marty Rifkin who has Gold and platinum records with Tom Petty, Jewell, Bruce Springsteen, Weird Al Yankovic and more. All monies from streaming,go to World Central Kitchen which provides food and shelter in war torn areas like Ukraine. .
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes. When I lost my record deal and staff songwriter job with Capitol in 1976, my father came out to LA to talk with me. He said I needed to get a job. He said if you have a state license you’ll never be w/o a job. He was an Insurance executive. He took me over to the company he worked for in Detroit, in LA and got me licensed to sell life insurance..I didn’t stay long with that company, but I did continue in the business and became successful with my own company, even though I hated it for many years. I still was recording my own music and performing and still do to this day.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
What’s most rewarding to me is the writing aspect of music. I started writing my own songs when I was about 16 and had my first record deal when I was 17. I’ve had 5 record deals over the years and many publishing deals as well. I’ve also had many well known artists and producers record my music.,I’ve been fortunate to also play with some of the greatest musicians in the world. On my MGM and Capitol Record deals Nathanson and Schoenholz, we recorded with the legendary Wrecking Crew studio musicians as our back up band. As well as many others. The lyrics and melodies never stopped coming. Before the pandemic hit in 2020, I had already stopped writing songs for a while. But shortly thereafter, I started getting ideas again and the songs came..This is what led me into recording again and releasing my EP Winds of Fate. I decided then, to donate all monies I received from streaming my music to .the World Central Kitchen which provides food and shelter to war torn areas like Ukraine.
