Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alan Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Being a chef for over 20 years and watching my family and friends effected by my products I wanted to make a change…I want people to know they don’t have to eat what our ancestors ate….its not even made the same anymore. Everything is consumer based and geared to help commercial businesses and Big Pharmaceutical companies. I made it my mission to stop that and still provide delicious food people can be happy about eating. I don’t want to call myself a superhero but you can. We are only here once so it’s important to leave a positive impact for the future and our children.
Alan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I can remember my first restaurant job…..I interviewed and heard a lot of noise coming from the kitchen…..it was the sound of beautiful controlled Chaos and me being loud myself I knew I needed to be a part of that. I was 15 and already knew what I wanted to do with my life. The chef life was calling my name! After a few months bussing tables it was my time to shine. I worked hard, had fun and before I knew it I was in charge of the line. Stress is my friend and that kitchen was full of it. I couldn’t get enough especially with the lack of talent there. I was sure I wouldn’t be there long, as growth was calling my name. I bounced around a couple place until I met Chef Bruce and started doing wedding/ function catering. It would be long until I went to school to learn as much as I could. The connections I made at school and wedding venue took me to The National Harbor to run a food service at a piano bar, man that was fun lol. Tem year later I met my wife and started my own catering business called All Measures Catering…. I was booked gigs and starting to get real busy until my first daughter arrived. My pride and joy….love you Lani bear. We soon headed West for better schools and sunshine. Best move ever. Apron arrival here I got that cooking itch again and took on a management position at Soro’s Mediterranean grill. I knew absolutely nothing about Mediterranean food but I great at what I do so why not. We soon implemented at vegan buffet there once a month and between that and my persistent wife, we decided it was time to control our health and try veganism. Right around that time the be C graced with it presence(COVID-19). After be temporarily laid off, another business was in my sights…VeegMe LLC was born. With the arrival of my second daughter it was sealed. I need to be around as long as I possibly can for them, and veganism should ensure that. I want to see first dates and heartbreak(hopefully not too much), and weddings. So from here on out, we at VeegMe are here for all you comfort food needs, whether it be steak, chicken, fish, bbq, etc. As long as it’s vegan….VeegMe is the way.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My partner is my wife….believe it or not my mother introduced us. She was renting a space from her and she believed we were meant for each other. Being complete opposites I wasn’t sure it would work but you know what they say….opposites attract. Her vision is practically what brought VeegMe from an idea to what it is now….another fun fact, her son knew we would be together before anyone else.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Cooking “regular “ and transitioning to a vegan lifestyle/business wasn’t too hard…getting people to eat vegan in Temecula was the real challenge. Just like life though, anything worth trying takes time to master and the journey is the best part.
